Why do some people quote for jobs through mtvan, and then not answer their phone?

DMS NATIONWIDE COURIERS

That's a common problems for a lot of people on exchange sites, they either want the work or not

Speed Couriers Nationwide Ltd

Can't say i've ever had that problem but then again, if its a job thats been sitting there a while and you've decided to ring em back an hour later then maybe that's why... Just a thought

The courier bid within 5 minutes of our GTM going out, we then called the courier a couple of minutes later. We also sent a message through mtvan and tried calling at least 5 more times! We found someone else in the end.

Just to add the that, he posted empty a few minutes after putting in for our job!

Shame, hopefully he'll get your message and try to avoid making the same mistake in future.

Do you call from a withheld/private number? Some people don't answer to them. Did you leave a voicemail?

Good point Scott

Good point, we do call from witheld but there was no answer phone to leave a message on. We did also send a message through mtvan, he did quote through mtvan in the first place.

He did call from a witheld number but thats not why i didnt answer. I noticed some one/thing had hit my wing mirror all on the floor in a thousand bits nice! Was on landline getting a new one. Sorry to ignore you but without it i can not go anywhere.

HSP Couriers LTD

Not saying this is why but the person could have quoted, and then realised what or who he was quoting for? It is a possibility.

Disregard above post - explanation given

IWD - thanks for the explanation and sorry to hear about your mirror. Please feel to quote again in future.

Why would you use a witheld number on a business line, its not very professional and could lead to you losing business

IWD Rapid Despatch

My pleasure Courier Expert not a problem.

Many reasons:

  1. We operate from 2 different offices, in 2 separate parts of the country. People end up saving a number in their phone and then calling back on the wrong numbers, which are not route able.
  2. The lines we call from are not 24 hour, we have had previous instances of drivers calling out of hours with problems while on a job and not getting through to anyone. Best to avoid anyone knowing the direct numbers in the first place.
  3. Our 0843 provides us with a complex switchboard and call routing system, as well as automatic call recording. This has resolved many, many previous disputes beyond doubt.

08 numbers... Again, not something I will call normally, they cost me money over and above my contract and it gets a bit tiresome when your bill is 10 quid a month more than it should it be every month... 120 quid a year.. Thats an interim service to me! My phone has a blacklist facilty and all unknown or private numbers are blocked, I get sick of PPI/Ambulance chasers calling me! Wht if you make a sales call... The number is unknown so you have no chance of getting a call back to enquire what your call was about. Im a former Recruitment Field sales Rep so I guess I can speak with some authority on the subject

Michael Lucani

In fact, Courier Exchange openly discourage the use of 08 numbers because of the complaints they have had, I know this to be true.

That's odd, I've just had a look on their contact page and they have an 08 number themselves!

All our regulars have our text only number, so they can just send us a message and we will call them back, to avoid excessive phone bills.

Anyone who wants to submit quotes in this way, or GOB/POD info, is welcome to so. The number is: 07537 404495. Just remember it is text only, it does not connect to anyone's telephone.

Thats a bit short sighted isn't it? When several of my customers call me their companies telephone systems throws it up as withheld, if a company like this ever called you, you wouldn't answer it

If you call someone and get no reply and then a few minutes later get a witheld or private call, wouldn't you think it's highly likely to be the person you just tried to get hold of?

I thought posting contact details in the forum was forbidden

Why not use an 0333 **** *** number?

It costs the same as ringing a local landline and is included in all mobile "inclusive" minute packages.

I didn't know 03 were included in mobile packages. I'll have a look into that, and see if our provider offers them.

I didn't know it was? I'm sure admin will remove if not allowed.

You can, you just drop the first zero and its included in your minutes

Yes, but by directly I mean if you get a text with that number in it, you can't just click on it to call the number, you have to muck about typing it in from scratch - try doing that at 70mph in the outside lane of the M1

I may be mistaken but I seem to remember hearing something recently about the authorities telling mobile providers that they should stop charging for 0800 numbers. No idea if it was suggestion or orders, I only caught the tail end of the report on the radio.
