Hi All,

Does anyone know who does breakdown cover for Europe for a large van on courier work. My insurance company dont do it, the AA dont cover large vans abroad and neither does green flag. My broker says RAC don't either, any pointers would be appreciated as I need to get covered by Friday.

I could be completely off the mark on this one but have you checked out the ADAC?

Vehicles covered

AA European breakdown cover can be used for private cars, hire cars, motorbikes (over 200cc) and light vans of any age. With Lite and full cover, you can also cover campervans, motor caravans and minibuses.

Some restrictions apply, however, in order to make sure your vehicle will fit onto a recovery transporter:

Maximum weight: 3.5 tonnes (3500kgs) gross vehicle laden weight
Maximum length: 7m (23ft)
Maximum width: 2.3m (7ft 6in)
Maximum height: 3m (9ft 10in)

When my motorcyle Alternator failed I was recovered by the AA I was chatting to the recovery guy on way back, he confirmed if a van was loaded being used for business he would not recover it. Check small print, AA and RAC told me they do not cover for commercial vehicles being used for H&R

You were asking for a refund in your 'frustrated' rant

ADAC is not expensive and good membership benefits. I have 3 vans insured with them. You have to have a personal membership that covers non commercial that costs about €75. Then each van on a company registration approx same again.

Correct me if Im wrong, but isnt AA an offshoot of the european ADAC or the otherway round, I beleive my oversized camper is covered by both but thats not for H+R.

Think you are right [name],as if covered by them you are covered in the UK, where they pass it on to the AA, but ADAC definitely cover for commercials on business use throughout Europe.

^^^ This, I think.

Summer before last I got EU breakdown cover for my car from the AA, but I think if it comes to it often the ADAC come to rescue you.

Just to update on the breakdown situation. RAC provide cover for van up to 7.5m being used for hire and reward all over Europe on one of their fleet policies. Costs £126.45 per annum. Includes home start etc. Pretty good i think.
