Hi Everybody,

Recently joined mtvan and am based in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, have been driving a VW Caddy for last 3 years and decided to go into the courier business, could'nt believe the cost of insuring my van to carry goods then there is the GIT Insurance and to top it all had to get Public liability Insurance, need to get a lot of work to pay for all this. What I would like to know is what is the best device for obtaining an electronic signature when handing the goods over, would appreciate any advice, not to mention work if you have any in Northern Ireland, lol.

Regards to all,

Tony

I can imagine this being included in a later version of the mtvan iPhone app, at some stage down the line.

Although the big parcel carriers have been using this kind of thing for years, there is some doubt still in the sameday industry about moving away from paper and pen, I think?

Does anyone disagree with that?

We looked at doing this a while ago and whilst it's simple to do and would be nice to have I decided that a mobile phone wouldn't be tough enough to handle prolonged use in this way and so you'd need some dedicated hardware which means loads of money :(

I looked into this a while back and I can use a normal phone with a touch screen,
however the signature on capture devices is nothing like normal so if there was a dispute on who signed for it you are a bit screwed  and I found people would insist on using a pen to sign rather than their finger which does not scratch the screen!!

There is still the old school companies who insist on a hard copy too!
No Hard Copy NO PAYMENT!
so I gave up with it

hope this helps

Thank you all for your comments, think I might be best just sticking to using a pen for the meantime.

I use normal paper copy POD's with an Android app off the Android Market, called CamScanner, (it's free) which you can use to scan and email or MMS POD'S to customers if they insist on them, or just fax them when you get home.

I have tried a few on my htc flyer currently using datadroid forms free app off the android market not too bad but again a lot of jobs i use pen and pape, currently working on my own form using pdf and sign program, i have found if i work for someone else if they email me with there own delivery note all filled out , with my magic pen i can get a signature and email back within mins of the job being completed. i think this technology will slowly take over but not untill its afordable.
