yes blackberry or iphone etc you don't need a dedicated unit as long as your phone has got a touch screen,

Hi Guys, I was looking for an independent one, one that will read barcodes for the like of DHL, City Link etc. I have an app which is good, just looking for a step up.

the best bet is to just use one of those pads with the 2nd sheet, that way you wont have to worry about tech problems and they always happen.

There is a lot to be said for using a PDA on screen POD system if you are multi dropping on low margin / minimal cost parcel deliveries day in - day out.

For proper sameday courier work a genuine sign, print, date, time handwritten, kept on file for 6 years paper POD will not be improved upon for many years!

Dedicated sameday work is the cream of the dispatch industry and whilst technology should undoubtedly be used where it actually improves upon existing practises the POD on a screen does not - so often the "signiature" bears little resemblance to a genuine ballpoint on paper one.

I hear what you guys are saying, but I was looking for an independent machine, which I could use for all carriers, such as, City Link, Yodel etc, if it exists that is!!!

This sounds very complex as most carriers have their own bespoke software designed specifically for themselves.
I can't see that all the carriers would be willing to share the software unless it was just a downloaded app.
Seems like alot of hassle for little return.
