We have been asked about providing next day services for some of our clients and was looking for a little more information.

We have seen the paypound system but I am unconvinced of reliability, I know we can collect from our customers efficiently but when the consignments leave our possession we are at their mercy for next day service. This isn't to say they are not any good but I don't know of any track record.

Usually when  the consumer price is low the service can sometimes suffer.

So if anyone of you chaps provide this service could you offer a little advice please?

The problem with offering a next day type service is that the amount you can make will be small due to the fierce competition. Then when something goes wrong (and it will do often) it'll be you that gets it in the neck and you can potentially lose your customer.

That's my point entirely.

We know that everything our end will run like clockwork but once out of our hands  we have zero control,

It sound like way too much hassle for little return.

deffo not worth the hassle....just link your site to someone like apc or interparcel and let the customer do the rest

the more clicks the more online presence i'd have thought....which gets your site higher up the listings

Yes, but you need pretty enormous traffic to make it worthwhile.

I started doing overnight dox & parcels about 3 years ago using the major multinationals and have found that this now accounts for at least 50% of my business. All the customers that use the service are aware that a third party is used and are informed of the possible pitfalls. Yes it does go wrong sometimes but its a very small proportion. I tried overnight pallets with one of the pallet services but that was more trouble than it was worth.

We have offered a overnight services for at least 20 years! i feel that our customers need this option for non urgent goods... we put all ours throu a third party as trying to set up your own system is enormous! you must have thousands and thousands of packages per day to make serious money...

i've come across a few "samedayers" who have ventured into the next day market either by franchise or some kind of link up, and most have failed miserably why?

Because they get so embroiled in their next day deliveries/collections they lose all the sameday work...and the day is much much longer, typically 6am til 1900...and all for a quid per drop?

The more cock ups the nextdayers don't get bailed out by us samedayers, the more work they'll lose and the more customers will realise sameday is the only guaranteed delivery option.
All we're doing is helpin to kill off the sameday market if we get into bed with em all.

Well thats my opinion for wot its worth
