First small step in a big project we've been working on for a while.

All part of building trust between members, so people can be sure of who they are trading with, to help protect both couriers and Vendors.

In the insurance details tab in the Account section, you can now upload a GIT insurance certificate. Please update your details now.

Those of you who have been through the Royal Mail Courier Services excellent online vetting system, designed and written by us, will recognise some of the features.

At the moment, there's no change to the way your insurance details will be displayed on your Profile.

When we do change the profile to show uploaded stuff, it will have an mtvan watermark on it to protect you, and definitely won't be available to all and sundry.

Please upload/update your insurance details as soon as possible, if only to get rid of your "no insurance" red flag on your Profile. You can check your Profile by clicking on Profile Page (top left hand corner of Dashboard).

Worth pointing out that you can now add all of your goods in transit insurance documents.

So if you have more than one policy (perhaps multiple vehicles, I know many have one policy covering everything) you should add them both. When you renew next year you should add the new one and so on. Over time this should helpfully build some credible history about you, which I think is extra helpful to support your online reputation.

Admin wouldn't it be a good idea that all new members upload their insurance details when they apply to join mtvan this may cut down the number on here running without the correct insurance

I can see where you're coming from but:

  • What about freight forwarders who do not need GIT?
  • What about people that come to the site and do not have their details to hand that second?
  • What do you do when that insurance expires?
  • What about new couriers whose GIT has not come through yet?

I can imagine over time restricting what you can do without insurance, but to disallow access to the site in one go unless details are provided is a big jump.

If we can get enough people with good GIT details, hopefully vendors will not be selecting people with invalid details and these people will not be 'running' anywhere. If we can't do that then yes maybe some tightening up is required.

How can I as a vendor see the certificate? or is the details good enough as proof, as I dont see anything that states a certificate has been uploaded.

**PW the problem isnt with new mbrs as this would probably be part of the criteria met when joining its getting current mbrs to do it **, not having the insurance details uploaded is a headache, especially when those that say they will email them if and when they are required tells me 2 things, this does make it hard for me to pick someone suitable with the correct Insurance in place in that area when the customer is requiring collection now, and asking to email the details is hard enough especially when your client is waiting for you to collect..

If They Dont Comply What Next? and is there a time limit to upload?

Admin. I have uploaded mine. It stated upload complete and then I saved it. However when I check back in the insurance section it is still stating no document uploaded?

Do you verify and then update?

No we don't. What was the file format?

Please send me the file in an email so I can test it myself (will be this evening now before I get the chance).

Please let me know what the format was? I want to fix anything that states 'success' when there is none.

I had it saved as a word document and I assume the upload was looking for a PDF or jpg?

I hope your boat is insured third party fire and theft?

No-one in their right mind would steal this an it's too wet to burn! but back to the topic...

Uploaded mine now.

This is a good idea, but... It by no means guarantees the subbie will be any good. I have used subbies in the past, whose Insurance I have had sight of and they are about as much use as snow in June!

Just because they have uploaded an insurance document does NOT mean that they are capable of good communication skills and of carrying out the very basics like obtaining a legible proof of delivery signature and name!

Jones Services

Uploaded mine also.

You need to pay them more, 60-70 pence is so out of date, put your prices up, get with it, pay the more between 6pm & 6 pm everybody living in the past.

I do pay top whack Gary! ;)

Taylor Logistics

However I try not to sub work out now, as it makes far more sense to keep it all 'in house'

I also don't seek other work or back loads, Price it right in the first place, back loads = too much hassle, (mostly anyway) Always willing to assist friends and Colleagues though, if we can be of any help.

Admin... When will we be able to edit posts?

ADMIN: Trying to upload my GIT but coming across a glitch...

I upload the pdf, and it gives me a green tick, but the 'save' button doesn't become highlighted (highlit?!) so I can't proceed. Any chance you could give it a poke?

Please save your insurance record if you haven't without the image.

Then, please email your pdf to [email] and I'll add it for you/try to work out what's going wrong.

What browser are you using?

No worries Admin. I hadn't entered the policy number. It seems that's required before the upload will be accepted.
