Hi all just wanted to throw this out there to get a few opinions, had a strange request today from 1 customer which was to do 3 deliveries in kent and SE London with their van and diesel provided. It took 6 hours from start to finish and I have a rough idea what to charge but didnt want it to seem to extortionate. Just looking for a quotes to see if its inline with mine. Many thanks.

New to the job here but surprised you didnt agree a price before you did the job. I would charge him a day rate.....you can have me for £140.....i think .

If they found what you quoted them reasonable and give you the job, then they didn't find it extortionate. Sorry to state the obvious!

Oh, but you did the job without quoting first?? Hopefully it doesn't end in tears! :)

I didnt make any quote before hand as I wanted to see how long I would be out for. £140 for 6 hours work with no diesel to pay for works out £24 p/hour !! wasnt going to charge that much Fastback but if you can earn that sort of money p/hour driving you will be a rich man :-)

It may have been better to agree a fixed hourly rate beforehand, then there are no quibbles once the job is complete. Everybody works for different amounts, some too cheap, some too expensive, some get it right so it's up to you, just quote whatever makes both parties happy.

You were supplying your labour and presume your muscle and expertise and assume you had travelling time to and from the job, thats what i was being paid when i was labouring......wonder what it would have cost him to get an agency worker.

I usually supply van and do the deliveries for them but think today was a money saving scheme to keep costs down. job is only 5 mins from my house as its a regular customer thats why I would like to get pricing done thats seems fair ! hence the post to see what you guys think.

Not far off what I was thinking Fastback, their van done 280 miles round trip today.

I would have charged a day rate as that driver would have been unable to do much else....and as they were supplying van and fuel £150....( i'd be after £250 if i'd supplied the LWB) You can't look at just the 6hrs, you have to look at what you expect to earn in a day. As you didn't know how long it would take you couldn't have taken on any other jobs Don't under sell yourself Mr Head!!!

Personally I would take my day rate minus the fuel and a bit for wear and tear. So as speed said if your day rate is £250 supplying the van and fuel then I think £150 is reasonable.

I'm guessing although it was 280 miles return, form A to G ( 6 drops) was probably about 200? If you were pricing it as a job in your van you'd be looking at a mileage rate of between £1 and £1.50? plus a drop rate of say £5- £10 per drop?

At the lower end you'd be charging £230 plus the toll?

At the higher end £360 plus toll

Take out the fuel (£50?) and wear and tear and what do you think?

If you're think £80 then you really are selling yerself well short!!!

thanks for the feedback guys, with van supplied it would of been around the £250 mark, but I thought I would go for the £100 mark as MD is a friend. (mates rates)
