Hi people I have just joined the site and wanted to know if is worth upgrading to a full member in order to quote for jobs. I own a small transport company and have my own rates but I wondered if anyone could give me a rough price guide for say, Watford to London with a LWB Transit, maybe a couple of pallets of say 10 - 15 boxes. Thanks in advance

For example, there is a job on this site now this one, Hemel Hempstead, HP2 7DY to Finchampstead, RG40 3RB But I can even see what sort of prices people are bidding because I am not a full member but don't want to pay for a full membership to then find the the bids are silly money. Thanks Gary

Gary as a full member you cant see bids. Its suck it an see as far as full membership goes, some find it good others a waste of time, Mail me if you need more.

Sounds like that joke of a site, anyvan, a lot of uninsured car drivers running around for peanuts. I actually just had a call from a company called "Flat rate moving company " they wanted some empty boxes and packing material taking from Watford to Camden for £40, ye right, thanks but no thanks

You would be lucky to get a tenner out of the expert for that trip.

£0.50 per mile seems to be considered a reasonable rate these days by some people.

£0.75 is a dream come true.

Not sure how to take that comment, are you saying those are appropriate subbie rates? The £35 ph is on the high side for a subbie (but its London & a transit?) but two hours min?

You assume rather alot. Obviously my sarcasm went over your head. I thought "I'm OUT!" might have given the game away. I'm not interested begging for peanuts, which is why I have taken a proper job. This forum has certainly put me right off being a self employed courier.

I would go to Camden from Watford for £40 but maybe not in a LWB Transit.

I don't think a lot of companies/couriers outside of London actually realise what London work is, just because it's only 12ish miles, it's not a simple 5 minute hop, to get to central and north London from here can easily take 2 hours, not sure why companies/couriers seem put out when I won't meet up with them somewhere on around the M25 and take their goods into London for £35-£40

From Coulsdon into Central is worlds different from Watford to Camden

Just had an email from TFL saying Congestion charge is going up to £11.50p from 16th June. So riding in small items looks like a good option.

surely - you are all passing the additional cost on to the customer anyway,

Shocked at the amount of press this is getting, in the grand scheme of things , a £1.50 increase should have no detrimental effect to what we all do.

Funnily I gave out two quotes over the weekend Bedford to Coulsdon (& Croydon) they were so close in detail I thought they were on a wind up, didn't get either. Doesn't worry me so fool probably likes working over the weekend for normal rate.
