Ok, I gave a "newbie", some advice, a few cups of coffee at my house and an ear to moan to. I also gave him a couple of jobs to cover, fair play he covered them well.

I had a phone call from a customer of mine this week, saying said newbie had been in offering to undercut me and dropping his card in, am I wrong in assuming that there is an unwritten rule that says we dont bite the hand that feeds us ?

I also find that he has copied and pasted photos of my van on to his adverts.

Iam not impressed.

Can i pop round, I will bring a note pad!!

Yes it is an unwritten rule.

It's something i think about but in reality i provide a quality service and find that most of my customers use our services because of me and the way i represent our business.
Yes you may get the odd one that may fall for the old undercutting trick but at the end of the day they can only cover one job at a time and will soon let people down.

Either that or tell your customer you had to let him go because you caught him stealing!!

thats not right at all mate, ive had it done twice to me in the last couple of weeks but one of the subbies had worked for me for years!!!!! think everyone is getting that desperate for work then things like this are happening, shame really because whenever you give a job out to a driver its always going to be in the back of your mind and your always going to be wondering if its going to happen again

A note pad and the coffee lol,

I agree, In the past 4 years that I have dealt with the customer, my number is always the first that they ring (I hope), it just puts you off helping "newbies" and trusting subbies.

Definitely a no no, what is they say dont bite the hand that feeds you or dont shit on your own doorstep,

Its a shame a few always have to get greedy and spoil it for the rest, as said i expect very quickly he will come stuck and the customer will soon return when they realise cheaper aint always better.

an unwritten rule?

I'd carve the bloody thing on his forehead with a very sharp knife
" DO NOT TRY AND NICK WORK FROM OTHERS"

Surely if he has got a picture of your van (your property ) you could attack back that way as you did not give consent to the picture

My partner is a photographer anytime she wants to use pictures she has taken as advertisement she has to get the person or the property's owner to sign a consent form.

That is if you want to do anything, personally i think speeds picture sums up the appropriate punishment.

My customer is fine, they are happy with the service and rates, that I offer, so I am not worried about him taking any work from there, its just the fact that he has been so open in doing it, mentioned my name to my customer and then said he could do it cheaper, after I have tried to support him as a "newbie".

What a ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff turd. I dont thing we should name and shame cos we are bigger than that. Although we should have a section to put these low life brown stuff nicely tucked away for use to take note.
