Is the recession over?

Recently I have been busier than usual and this month alone has certainly been the best yet for us by far, work has doubled and then some, can this mean one thing are things on the up? I know some will say its been quiet, but I have spoke to the majority of my clients who have all said the same and that is business is on the up. Theres alot more traffic on the road, theres more shoppers in the centres and more general activity out and about, the general feeling is are things on the up?

And since putting my prices up not one new client has battered an eyelid either which surprises me. Where as before they would make some excuse or try to haggle you down as such and such down the road offered for this price and would expect you to do it cheaper or the same..

It may sound strange but our industry actually gets busier in a recession as Businesses cut staff, so can't send their own out to do deliveries, so more outsourcing for us lot, they carry less stock on the shelves, so again, more for us to move around, and they look more at their costs. Is it really better to have those vans sitting outside or is it actually cheaper to get us couriers to do it instead?

I hope its down to an upturn, and a sustained one at that

July and August have been the best 2 months ever for us. While I would like to think it's all down to my own business acumen :) I think the truth of the matter is that the recession is indeed over.

I've seen a difference the past few weeks myself. I have noticed that courier exchange members are struggling to cover work these days aswell. I must admit tho, I get around 20 calls a day out of the blue to check to see if i'm available. Today alone, I got 0ver 200 email alerts for work to be covered, normally 80-100 within 20 miles radius of my location. So lets hope things are on the up :)

Lets face it the REALLY clever ones make money in the Good times And the Bad. There's always an opportunity, it's just about knowing where to find it

It does seem more positive lets hope it continues. We are active in chasing new business. But must still keep a weary eye on the bad payers. We are still chasing one company we used to sub for balance now 150 days.

SMH glad to hear it.. I cannot say 7 yrs, as Ive only been operational 3yrs, but compaired too previous years month to month it has been climbing and slowly, but this year like you has been very good, but this month has been exceptional.. And already starting to take bookings for September.. But the only person that can confirm if everything is tickityboo is the accountant..

'Oop norf' is in recession but the further north you go it's a depression (well it is with me, so therefore choose to work 'darn sarf', but the people aren't so nice here).

AJM.. I heard on Radio2 today that things are picking up, slowly maybe and no boost by no means, but all the same the recession is over, but that was radio2 on the vine show.... And yet again for me this week is a repeat of last week, London again today also more calls than normal, my biggest client has asked me for one on wednesday to travel from Halifax to London and back, to sort their visa's out for saudi and not 1 visa but 8, as they have dropped on something large, they have said the same, that things are picking up for them after a few quiet months.. There must be something in the air, as Ive done quite a few tenders in so many days recently which is unusual, and tbh the school hols are normally quite quiet for us but again for some reason in the Yorkshire area its been busy.
