I can't believe nobody took the opportunity to earn good money.

I cannot believe (as I posted yesterday) nobody took the oportunity to earn themselves £30-40 for a 15 mile job from South east London to North west London... Thats £2 - 2.66 per loaded mile in which reading off here is a winner... I phoned of MTVan quite a few couriers nearby to the postcode and guess what.. Answerphone or switched off..

I ended up using City Link...and at least I know they have GIT Insurance, And surprisingly enough charged me £30+vat..

Hello Mr Gas I think what is written on here represents a very very small amount of the industry. The rest of the 99.3% of the industry are busy and making a living and dont talk about it as much as us. The reality is the only place where people are desperate to run for peanuts is Courier Exchange and I have not really come across this before anywhere else. Some of the big companies might try to get new people to run for nothing but thats it. At least if Citylink are willing to help at a good rate it gives you a bit of peice of mind

Mr Barnsley the way I have read your post, are you saying I was offering my work for peanuts @ £2+ PLM? and everyone else 99.3% is busy earning a living at @ a low rate?

Im not asking anyone to run for nothing, Im certainly not sticking it on Courier Exchange, Im in for quality not profit, I did put the job on Shed5 and may of had it covered "if" there was anyone in London..

Mr Barnsley we are all busy one way or another,

No I meant what is written on here does not represent the majority of the industry Im not saying your offering work peanuts Im just highlighting your observation that there are people here looking for work but this is not the case always

To be honest we dont look on here for jobs we use it to get contacts from. We have tried to sell jobs on here but we need them sold quick, so they normally go on Courier Exchange. If you need any thing call one of our offices. There all good and have plenty of bikes/vans / Lge vans / Luton Tail lifts...

Thank You DD I will keep your details........ The scenario I have... Is I have a regular Client in Halifax who from time to time drops stuff in my lap for me to deal with all over the country, and phoning around London for couriers is a bloody nightmare.. But I normally get it covered, even if it means using the bigger boys (in which I dont want to use) but needs must.. She has given me plenty of jobs big or small, but they all need covering.. And I dont like letting her down.. Its the level of service thats she loves, some jobs even means intercepting tuffnells vans, I have done these type of jobs a couple of times successfully and all in London.

Ok GAS just give us a call we will try to help. We have vehicles in london all day, Can normally pick up central within the hour.

Maybe if you had of put the price you were willing to pay, putting 15.7 miles makes it looks like you want it on a per mile basis which as I said in the text is an hour by van across London.

I know Tony maybe its an option for the future.. or call the numbers that have been given to me..

Ive just had a call from City Link... even though I have phoned a couple of times in the past 2 hrs to find out if its been collected, and was told yes and we are looking at a 1pm delivery... W ell as I said just had a call from CL, there has been a miscommunication, and the driver is now on scene of collection (@ 1pm).. :-(

I still think especially for a London job if you're willing to pay £40 you should have said, taking a detour into London for that can put an hour on your route.

I would worry using a company like citylink after their balls up I hear about from my customers using them for a cheap over night

Hello Mr MK I dont think he has too much to worry about we have been doing same day work for Citylink for a few years but also ten years before them Target. Their same day side is no different to everybody else I cant ever recall a same day complaint in all that time. You will be surprised that courier companies do use them when they are struggling but as Mr Gas said you know they are insured and vetted and to my knowledge they wont go after your customer

Yes DD..

Mr Barnsley.. I have written a review to CL but seeing as its not a good one, I would be surprised of it makes there board at all if not lost in the post, from what Ive read on the reviews board and the experience ive had so far the 2 do not go hand in hand, and Im sure they have been paid to write what they have written...

And on the note of service.. There service is nowhere near compatable to those old skool/smaller companies/OD

Im not dissing the driver as he may have been a subbie, as hes only doing what hes told and probably did a grand job... My gripe was with customer service they offered, they were incompetant with no customer satisfaction skills and their communication or lack of was alot to be desired..

If I did what they did i would soon be out of business thats a cert..

I dont think this is the first time its happened ive had a call form i think was gary last year on a sunday out 4-5 couriers in my area i was one of the few that did pick up the phone. unfortunately i couldn't cover it as was prebooked for a 4am start the monday morning but did put him on to someone that eventually covered the job

It is something that does crop up on a regular basis and should be addressed if you say 7 days aweek atleast answer the phone

Alex and I thank you... but this wasnt a 24/7 issue... it was a job that had been advertised for at least if not more than 12 hours giving folk the opportunity to take the job, as Tony has rightly pointed out, I think I should have entered the amount that I think its worth or the time taken in a van, this may have encouraged folk to go for it, on the other side of the coin folk may also be wary for non payers are an issue as well, but I dont fall into that category..

This is a bit of a serious issue I'm new to internet exchange sites but lets reflect that these site are very popular if every job was a massive risk they would not be this popular! A new customer can always be a risk its nothing new! But gas man posts on here all the time anybody that is a risk would not be this open! Wake up people!

Thank you Mr Barnsley Shipping, you are correct in what you say, I may be a newish mbr, but not new to the industry, Im a mbr of Shed5 as well and in my second year of membership, I have used and been used by mbrs off shed5, My feedback and trusts should really speak for themselves, I also used a mtvan mbr yesterday for a really big client.

My testimonials on my sites are genuine from genuine customers...

I have used a couple of MTVan mbrs already and have already paid them.. Im a believer if Ive already been paid by the client then the subbie shall be paid as well, he has after all done the job, it is a trust thing.. alternatively its the 30 day net.

I have no intentions of ripping folk off as its bad practise allround, If anyone checks me out personally, I am clean as a whistle and a director (be it voluntary) of a company called magic action promotions ltd, have been for at least 9-10 yrs. I have nothing to hide, I dont really bid for subbie work, and unless Im helping out I dont work for anybody else. My websites are not a flyby night sites like some, and depending on how you see them 2 are professionally done and the other one is not, but looks are deceiving.. My sites attract work thats a cert.. but find reliable couriers is another issue.

My regular client in Halifax, does from time to time drop stuff in my lap for me to sort out, and they are all of an urgent nature. Not just in london but all over.. And not just her either, she has clients who also want her to help them as well.. I will name one. A derby business rings the halifax business, who then rings me, after sorting the pricing, the item was collected in Derby by Fri 6pm and given to another bikey nr london to be in Paris by 7am (it was their for 3am) The job was given to SMC Express off S5 who is by far the right person for the job, you may know him as bramble.

Errrr... Not all Courier Exchange members are prepared to run for peanuts, think its more the exception than the rule.
