Wednesday 31st 2012 was an especially eventful night for myself as i was mashed on the M6 southbound by a Foreign Lorry driver.

The said Polish driver didn't see me from his left - sided drivers seat and took me out by clipping me on the rear of my van as he attempted to move into the lane that i was already driving in.

Luckily my vehicle and myself just danced gracefully around all 3 lanes of the M6 without the need to roll.

Having come to a standstill wedged in the cab of our polish friend, I contemplated how lucky i was to be still of this earth.

Within Minutes we were attended by the Highways agency who sorted us out and eventually exchanged details.

A kind motorist who was behind me pulled in to offer his version of events and confirmed that the collision was in no way fault of Mr G.

Within days my army of insurance and no win fee agents were on the case! The highways agency had logged the incident, I had all driver and company details and also that vital witness willing to testify.

4 weeks later I am told that the vehicle registration of his lorry cannot be found. On the insurance of motorists database The international firm of hauliers whom he was carrying goods for don't know him! Yet his trailer and truck had their name plastered all over.

My claim was against the 3rd party and yet now it seems because he is unable to be traced my vehicle and mental scars will have to come out of my own pocket.

Have any of you guys had to deal with a similar situation and have you any advice how I can force the "international" haulage company who use this driver to release more information?

Start posting the name of said company on as many forums telling of your story as you can.

Once they or their customers start seeing it crop up they might suddenly regain their memory.

Surely the authorities will have the vehicle logged as it entered and left the country.

I've heard this one before, and it seems it's quite common. It doesn't look like there's much you can do except claim off your own insurance, which ok, means you've made a claim, but at least it's not physically your cash, just your no claims and a higher premium next year....it's not nice but it happens. For anyone involved in an accident, take pics on your phone!!

To be honest and after i have just thought about it i have now instructed our drivers to call the police if involved with a foreign registered vehicle.

I have found the highways agency's only authority is really to sweep up the broken glass and look important.

As Speed says not much you can do. Makes no difference if Police involved either. I had front bumper and lights ripped off a Peugeot Expert by a Hungarian truck a few years ago, in Dover. Depite Police attending my Insurance could not locate the 3rd party so I lost my NCD.

Might the Motor Insurers Bureau be of any use to you? They are supposed to provide a means of compensating the victims of road accidents by negligent uninsured and untraced drivers. Don't know if they're any good though as I've never had to use them personally.

Thank you ...i have just had a call off my " no win-no fee " buddies who as you know will make it their interest to trace this driver. there is no trace of his registration at the mib , although as i said earlier he was carrying a load for a wexford based haulage company ........think old Leeds and Aston Vile manager ....david.....o.....? www.o.........com

The MIB compensation is unlikely to pay for more than 5% of your damage, I know its shocking!

I am leaving it to the ambulance chasers now to "earn their keep" as they say "no win no fee" so its in their interest to do all the leg work on this one

oh and thank you all for your concern on this matter.......yes i am ok, just a little bruised and sore. Lol
