Well we've all just seen another example of someone trying to take a cut from someone else who actually does the work. We're all guilty of it to a certain degree...I have the work, you cover it for me....I take my cut, you take yours....but there seems to be a few out there who are trying to be clever and make money off others by cutting corners...and I for one don't like it.

We have at least one Company who are abusing  their membership to an exchange site by letting others use their account....all for a fee naturally, but a fee that is cheaper than joining as a fully fledged member yourself. Hard times we are in, and I can understand why someone would take up this offer, but I don't like it cos its taking advantage of people who are less well off....and I think we have a Government who is much more professional at doing that already.
It also means we don't know who we're dealing with or whether they have the relevant insurances etc.

These people think they're being clever, and potentially they're making a lot of money, but its short term cos once they're outed, they're not only going to get blacklisted by all and sundry, they're also going to have a lot of their "sub-members" knocking on the door for their money back.

AND....if the job changes enroute it starts to get complicated

I contact who I think I gave the job to, he contacts the guy who is actually doing it (if he even knows who that is) and asks them where they are, etc etc...if he doesn't know who that is then we're all F****D.
How can you tell? The person bidding has a different mobile to the one listed

I chased one not so long ago and was given 3 different numbers b4 actually talking to the driver doing the job

Has this sort of thing not been going on for years?

Why does this happen, is it the extortionate cost these sites expect people to pay?

Can I also commend you in the way you word things, you have the knack, most people dont including me.

Well ty sir, I just say it how it is, my opinion right or wrong.

You mention the high costs?
I have 2 things to say about that..firstly, if you charge a high fee you stop those who wanna dip their toe in, so the quality SHOULD be better...I say should, not always the case, and secondly, I don't think we have a clue how much it costs to run these sites, and keep them uptodate with the latest gizmos. A tweak here, a tweak there..all costs money, not to mention the admin maintaining the membership, complaints, questions etc etc....and monitering forums to stop threads getting abusive which is a job in itself!!!
Its those people that don't like getting their hands dirty, try to be clever...and do it by ripping off the honest, usually desperate, and as a result i'm afraid, gullible ones that really annoys me

Have I mentioned i've given up smokin??!!!...lol

You might have started smoking again by 5pm today at this rate.

I myself considered a few years ago joining probably the biggest site, but I was put off  50%  by cost to join & 50% by lack of work in my area, now if you are going to do it properly you need to join, and be commited and proffesional about it and only then can you do a good job, get known, get repeat work & hopfully get paid, doing it the way you mentioned is heading for disaster you will come unstuck sooner or later.

Rob, your forgetting the 4 figure sign up fee for one of their franchises, which  is followed by a monthly subscription fee to the "exchange site" .

"drivers" all over the country each having paid a sign up fee £1***.

Do the maths.

So do you people really sub out work to people you have never heard off before !! ?

I know of one of the big companies in Sheffield that went back to DHL because it was eviendent that every Tom Dick and Harry was comming in and they got caught out big time the jobs had been yellowed and nobody comming in even knew the names of the people they were working for They completly lost trust

How do you build up a network if you don't use new people.

Of course we use people we've never used b4,and we give them all the info they need for both collection and delivery including names.
Thats wot cx and mtvan is there for isn't it?
If i've run out of drivers or have a collection somewhere else in the UK then it goes out for quotes.
The alternative is to say we're fully booked or we only cover Stansted isn't it?
I don't turn anything away... availability is the key

Are you honest with your customers though

Do you explain that some stinking gypo might turn up that nobdy knows anything about and we might not ever see again , Oh I forgot he is probobly acredited and has a yellow sticker in the corner of his windscreen with his number on !!!

Is it a case of I hope our customers dont find out what is going on or do you really feel you are giving your customer a really good service using people you dont know anything about

You cannot say Stinking Gypo.

My customers want a Courier when they ring, and they get one. To label every Courier You don't know as not worthy of being able to do the job is a bit elitist. Do my customers know what exactly?..that i'm supplying them with what they asked for?...Tell me the difference between a driver you've taken on and given his 1st job to, and using a subbie you may not have ever used, but you can bet has done many jobs b4. Who's to say who is better?...I know where my money would be.

Why are you on MTVan if you have no intention of ever using any of us on here?

Well I had a job into Barnsley today which I couldn't get covered because the alert system has been down since yesterday. So I thought, why not ring Barnsley Shipping? then I thought, perhaps not, I know nowt about him, he's probably hygienically and work challenged!

lol...i think it works both ways...we have to trust that a courier can do what we're paying for...and he trusts us to pay him.....99.9% of the time it works.

I rang a Courier on Yell.com a while back,as it was in an area badly sourced by any exchange site, and asked if he could cover a job for us....he said "I only do work for people I know"...well good luck with that mate....I only hope he knows a lot of people otherwise he ain't going to be moving much.
What an amazingly shortsighted way of working.

I wonder if the same approach is used when touting for Business?

Do these types only do work for Businesses they've heard of?

I've heard alot recently about ppl on CX sharing log-ins, its been going on for ages, not just by individuals but whole companies, freight forwarders are on the site buying the work then pricing it out again to drivers they know, according to CX this is not allowed but they have not banned anyone, they even have companies that are complained about all the time and nothing done.

i wish i didnt need to join the site but as a new start i felt i had no choice as they do have lots of posted jobs, hence the large membership base, sadly its now you pay your money we dont even care who you are your in, ive had 3 calls last week asking me if i would join on a massively reduced fee, they dont seem to know there own members.

sales team is all they are.

What do you call a massively reduced rate?

and you also have to realise that the forums are used by a very small %age of users, so reading them will always give a biased viewpoint

There are NOT people taking work, then subbing it out again....what there IS are members allowing others to use their membership to quote on jobs....and some are charging for the privilege. And if the vendor needs to inform the person he thinx he's sold it to of any changes enroute then it gets quite interesting I can tell you!!!....you ring one number, get given another, who might be the driver...might not....and after the 3rd or 4th time you get the driver you needed to talk to in the 1st place...it ain't right

3T Deliveries

i rang and quoted for a job and was given another number to ring to quote, this other number was a different company than the one that posted the work.

so it seems your right, sadly CX takes the money then doesnt care, i got offered a years membership for £120, once i told them i had already joined the guy on the phone started saying things like, but only if you sign up for the whole year and are very active, and, you must not tell ppl of this cheap rate, i asked why not and he told me as everyone will want the low rate, i said why dont you make the rate the same for all and he didnt have an answer, lol.

Well as a Vendor I have 60mins maximum to get a Courier in to collect, sometimes less, and I need a site that works. 99% of the work I need covering is sold within 10mins on CX, regretably the same cannot be said of mtvan yet....yes i got the odd idiot but thankfully thats rare. Unfortunately we all remember the cock ups rather than the jobs that went fine, and I think forums reflect this.
