Prices (again)

Last week I got a taxi from Derby station to Beeston, [Nottingham] I was charged £35 :) [15 miles]

Just had a customer wanting a letter taking from West Bridgford to Alfreton [25 miles]

Quoted him £40 [min charge] and he choked on his cereal!

Why is it that although probably not happy, people accept taxi charges, yet when paying for a delivery service they want it done for nothing?

Anyway, the guy just called back, so Bike is on it's way now :)

Ps I already know the answer, which is taxi drivers stick to their prices, and do not seem to have cheap'os driving their prices down :)

It might also have something to do with taxis carrying people rather than goods. Goods can always be replaced.

How much does it cost to insure a taxi correctly and license it etc?

So can people, that's why I'm on my third wife now.

And they have to have police checks too, and get their motors checked regularly and have regualr medicals

We can do double ups, and the odd little detour enroute, they can't

We need regulating, but it comes at a price which this industry would never stand

Who's going to agree to pay out more for police checks, medicals or the need to do the knowledge?

I have read with interest and sometimes amusement at the difference in charges between customers, end users & trade and have concluded that we fighting a loosing battle. Here's why, I was asked by a customer (regular) to quote on a LWB job (800kg) from Trafford Park to Aberdeen that had to be there for 8am tomorrow. We discussed the fact that it was good Friday etc and to meet that del time he would have to drive through the night or leave very early. So I gave the price based on this. He called me back to let me know he'd got it done for £300.00 + vat THATS 85 pplm no overnight charge, CRAZY!!

You wanna get better customers, I had a MK to Glasgow the other day and which needed signing and going to Manchester, because there was further paperwork in MK going to Manchester the next day they decided the Glasgow paperwork would be better to be returned to MK to go with the second lot of paperwork with the extra cost envovled to come all the way back to MK
