Our office girl called another courier company yesterday to cover a flatbed transit job of 52 miles 700kgs 1.6 Metres long 1 Metre wide and 0.5 Metres high.

They quoted £479 + VAT

I had to call them back myself just to check and ask if £9.21 was the going rate for a flatbed transit.

The Woman at the other end of the phone said they weren't sure of the length so they quoted for a slightly bigger vehicle.

I did tell them that it costs us £490 + vat for a Artic with a moffett to Newcastle so i think they were a little bit expensive.

They then took 2 hours to get back with a price in the correct area.

I was just thinking of the potential customers lost with such bad practices.

Anyway another MTvan member actually covered the job and it was done quickly and as expected, So thank you to them.

Why worry about other inept operators losing customers?

Surely the more that screw up the better :)

I've had the same problem on a few occasions. At least you was able to cover at a rate that suited it worse when you can't find another haulier to cover at a fair rate.

With this customer they are quite flexible and in the past we have just hired in a flatbed on a half day rate.

We could have done this time but it was busy day and wanted the job covered quickly.
