I'm not worrying about them, 5 years too retirement, they aren't lazy buggers like a lot of British folk so they will do ok.

I couldn't agree more, we all would love £1.25pplm but in reality its not going to happen

And contrary to the posters belief, sweet fa to do with immigrants from eastern europe, more to do with Companies such as CitySprint, Rico Logoistics and the like continuing to offer ridiculous rates to end users, thereby making it impossible for anyone to charge realistic rates, reducing margins to a level that no other industry could survive with, and leaving the driver with a rate that is both insulting, and unworkable.

Those that offer a paltry %age of what they charge due to there own inadequancies and incompetence, and because they don't see that without the driver they have no business but continue to take the p*** out of them, is another reason for seeing rates well below where they should be.

And as long as there is an endless stream of newcomers it will continue to be the same.

Being a courier used to be a skill, a good one was worth his weight, but now you don't even need a van... Maps?Satnavs are an ap on your mobile, and you don't even need to talk to the person you're doing a job for.

Some call it progress, i call it a dumbing down of the industry... And in the blame culture we live in, its all too easy to jump on the bandwagon and blame immigration. Its nothing to do with immigtation, its down to greed, and the reliance of the naive.

Well said [name]... But on the plus side, you get what you pay for, when said companies that you mention F%*@K Up, then and only then the customers will realise how much of a loss they have made and come back to the real world, I can only thank DHL for my regular weekly run, and the customer realises that cost of the service provided is if no importance compaired to what they could have lost through DHL.

Gents we are adults, leave the insults to the kids. People on the 'outside' reading these threads would not be impressed. Life is short and we all need each other at some time in life. Get over it and 'get on' together.

As for someone asking for £1.25 for a small van I think they really did not want the work, I have been paid £1.31 for a small van job, which was offered not asked for!. I am way cheaper lol.

Oh dear! People are so set in 'what is the rate for a small van' 'what mileage rate for a large van' Whilst it is a good reference point there is much more to quoting for work.

Take Eire for example, no way would I start the engine to go there without a hefty premium added, experience tells you that you can waste hours hanging around for ferries. It all depends where in Europe too! I also know that when we go anywhere in Europe (as we do weekly) the job is priced correctly to cover returning empty!

Backloads can be a bonus but most of the time cant be arsed with the hassle.

Some so called couriers just have not got a clue how to run a business.
