When is a back load not a back load ? When i don't want to go home !

What is he on about i hear you say ..well last week i found myself in London before 9am.

A firm i have done work for offered me a job up to Brum (my town) .They quoted me a back-load price.to which i said ..ive only just started i don't want to go home yet. I then took the job at my normal rate .

Trying it on ? or more importantly exactly when is a back- load a back-load

Vendors i await your opinion

I don't do back load rates.

If there is something on my van it is charged at regular rates, even if that load is taking me in the direction of home.

The courier company didn't charge it's customer less so why should I.

Mpg in an artic is about 9 but good driver can push it upto 11 buy not ragging the hell out of them.

A back load is where the driver gets about 40 pence a mile and the company offering the job gets 60 pence a mile, after the driver fuel bill is paid he gets about 3 pence a mile, yes I am being serious, forget to say you have to wait months to get paid and you normally have to chase it.

I dont do backload rates.. If someone is at the right place at the right time then its full rate.. End of.. Dont offer this to my customers to why offer it to subbies

Thats my mind made up, no offers of backload prices when available around this great island of ours. Its just 'room available'.

Thanks guys. ;-)

The person who says they have a backload for you will be getting paid full price, they the announce they have a backload and you get Jack.

I have never posted a backload because i have no such jobs. I don't think anyone does. A backload is something that relates to the courier quoting for a job, not a vendor selling it. If i have a job that needs covering and it happens to be taking a courier back towards his home, then he can quote lower to ensure he gets the job... At that point i would call it a backload, but only for him... For everyone else, me included, its a job that needs doing now ie a hotshot.

Nine times out of 10 Its a term thats been hijacked by vendors wanting to make more from you the courier NOT a vendor doing his customer a favour by offering him a cheaper rate by utilising a network.

We sometimes offer out back loads but thats only if we have stuff that we would prefer not to go on the overnight service due to weight or value. We often get some high value stuff going to scotland but we can only charge around £300 so offer it out at that

Deadline Despatch

Basically anything with a value of 15k or more we try not to put on the overnight service So 15k works out to be £150 worth of insurance so we offer that out
