I put in a bid for a load on CX the other day, and was told that I would need to take out GIT of £400,000 for the day, and the cost would be passed on to the customer. I asked my insurance provider, who said they'd never heard anything like it, but passed on the request to Aviva, the underwriters. Aviva replied that that level of cover would cost thousands, far more than I'd earn, and there would have to be special security arrangements in place, such as the van being guarded 24 hours. So basically, they wouldn't do it for me.

The work was being subcontracted to vans across the country, so presumably other people managed to get this level of cover.

Does anyone know how it's done?

I think i would be asking if CX or other exchange sites was the right place for a job like that, what was the job gold bullion, if it were my goods at that value i would be looking at specialist transport services, but having said that did you not say that the cost would be passed on to the customer. It wasnt cocaine was it ..lol

We had a similar request for engine parts, but that was on the basis of getting the contract so would have been more workable...and viable....although it still would have only been applicable to a certain number of vans listed under the policy. Sounds to me like this one you bid for don't know what they're doing cos thats just plain silly

It was going to be a Transit load of ipads for a supermarket chain! I assume there must be a new model out or something, and the supermarket wanted them all asap, because the whole shipment (25 vans nationwide) had to be delivered between 6am and 5pm today.
