Could I remind those that seem to have lost what exchange sites are all about that there is a TRADE PRICE and when quoting this is the price we're looking for... To that end it does mean that most exchange sites are for OD's AND those companies that have a driver "going that way" anyway and/or "coming back empty"

Its not rocket science but some seem to have completely missed what it is exchange sites are about

ITS ABOUT CUTTING DOWN YOUR DEAD MILEAGE AND MAXIMISING THE EARNING POTENTIAL OF THE MILEAGE THAT YOU DO

No one is asking you to run your drivers at 70 p per mile BUT if you have a driver in say London from Barnsley going back to Barnsley empty then 70p per mile IS viable. The alternative is go back empty which is just plain silly

If you have a job to London from Barnsley and there is another one going to london from your neck of the woods then yes you CAN afford to run at 70 p per mile

The fact that you don't suggests you just don't get it, or you're too lazy to try and maximise what your drivers can do

And anyone quoting £1.40 per mile for a small van job clearly doesn't get it either

I posted a small van job from Sheffield to Orkney a week or so back. I had 1 quote of £2075. 1 of £1800. Several in the High £700's 2 in the high £500's and one at £480. The first one said the ferry from Aberdeen! Was £500? The last one had family on Orkney and would do the job as a means of visiting. Which offer should I take?

You take the cheapest if he can idicate that he reliable enough because thats business The bloke that quotes high wont get the job but he took his time to quote on your job he has his rates and costs and there is no excuse for the site to abuse him. He probably sometimes gets high rates from an end user and he can afford not to do too much or as much as the rest of us. So who is the fool now him or us?

To go from Aberdeen to Kirkwall is crazy, The Pentalina sails from Gills Bay near John o Groats to St Margerets and its far cheaper, tell the Captain, Bobby, that Ray recommends their service, you might get it a bit cheaper. (he used to sail with me few years back)

And that's called using the expertise of local members to arrive at the best possible price for the job.

A point also overlooked in the subber/subbie equation is that the subbie is often paid by the subber irrespective of whether the subber has been paid by the end user. The subber is taking a risk, so therefore taking a cut for insurance against not getting paid.

For those two people with the silly high quotes, I hope you never ever get a job off here or any other site, You are a disgrace to the sameday industry, do you not know its all about providing a good service at a decent price, wouldn't like to know what they would charge for a long European job, you should be ashamed of yourself.

I disagree with you my rates are probably the same as yours but if these two boys can get those rates then good luck to them. Its going to be very difficult but maybe a multimillionaire may fall for the charms of these people. Your right they will never get a job off an exchange site but at the same time the reality is they are no threat to anybody. We will never have to worry about them I dont see a problem. Its the boy that is undercutting you that you need to keep an eye on!

Come on. You can't say that they are a disgrace! Who said it's about providing a good service at a decent price? If a customer is happy paying the asking price, what is the problem? I agree at those prices they are unlikely to get work off exchange sites, but if that's their price it should not be a problem. It's better than quoting too cheap and driving the prices down for others!

Alan, you have you opinion, I will have mine, I think they are totally unprofesional, it's better to quote a reasonable price with a chance of getting the job than to be silly, if you drop these 2 quotes by 100% they are still overpriced, Alan you are alway going on about subblies and that you cant find any good ones who are prepared to work 24/7, have you ever thought that you might not be offering them enough money?

Gary, I guess must agree to disagree. Because of all the hassle years ago I took on extra drivers, so thankfully I rarely need to sub any jobs out now. I try my hardest to keep all my work in house, which includes my list of preferred and trusted subbies and work colleagues.

I do on occasion have the odd job I need to cover elsewhere, and have paid what the driver was asking, even if it meant I made NOTHING on that particular job, but at least I did not break the terms of contract with my customer.

I tip my hat to anyone who can make the most profit they can from any job, it's what it is about after all, maximising profit. So long as the person is getting what he asks for in a quote it matters not what the person is charging their customer, it is also none of his business. After all, no one is forcing people to quote silly, they can always walk away if their expectations are not realised

There are choices and there are buses, trains, minicabs, taxis, black cabs, chauffeurs, private jets and of course you to drive yourself. Each will get you from AtoB, some direct, some not so direct, and they are priced accordingly.

Some charge for a chauffeur when they are in fact a minicab, some the other way round

What i think we're all looking for is a black cab, but one that doesn't take the "scenic route"

There will always be those that undercut, and there will always be those that try it on,

I've always said if i know the rules of the game, then i'll play.... thankfully most i deal with know how to play the game

Now on the other hand, how do know whether the top 2 quotes were geniune? They may after all have quoted to build up their points so they could view peoples profiles from a newbies point of view..

And like Alan RLT I take my hat off to anyone who wants to maximise profit to the end user.. Thats what we are in it for..

Think that's pretty unlikely... 2 on one job.
