Hey Gary your big enough to go round and give him a personal call. And thank fully all my jobs have been paid for on or before due date. (hope I not spoke too soon.

I would not wait 8 days never mind 58. Do these people think that your van runs on thin air. Or your mortgage provider will wait 58 days for payment. Come on Mr East-Lancs name and shame.

Quite agree Gary

Usually the larger a company is the longer one has to wait, It is NOT unusual for companies to state 60 or 90 days payment terms, and it is no use moaning about it, it's normal. If it doesn't suit, do not do any work for them. It is not difficult, if it is such a concern, payment terms should be established before carrying out work. It is no use moaning about it.

Once again it is down to communication, we often pay early if asked, for example if anyone is struggling.

But, from my business studies years ago, it is NOT good practice to pay until the due date. Better the money working for you in your account.

I do realise people can and do get stitched up, we have lost tens of thousands over the last 20 years with companies going bust, but all one can do is try to be as careful as possible, even companies you would least expect to have problems often do, Phones 4 u a recent example. As for naming and shaming, that is not good! There is always another side to the story.

Do you still you still use bags?

Speed Couriers Nationwide Ltd

We do indeed still use bags. Clear ones for recycled, which don't go in any bins so that they can check we're not all cheating... Black bin Bags which go in a black bins for rubbish that can't be recycled, and green bins for garden rubbish.

In the next county they have blue bins and brown bins. Some estates you see row upon row of wheelie bins, and thats not on bin day. Not a good look

Welcome to the real world of not having good credit control and not being in control of your finances, Now I dont know the sort of end user that uses you, but there is a way of dealing with the end user in a professional manner.

Now why are you saying one minute its not funny having been kept waiting hence the OP and then you state your end users pay within 14 days, am I reading this wrong due to the badly written posts?.

Now Im not sticking up for Gary (AJM) as I dont know him very well, but Slandering another mbr on a public forum is not good practise regardless and wont win many friends, remember mud sticks.

Again you dont really know his background, whether he subs or whether he is a vendor, but again calling someone you dont know a cowboy is very dangerous. But whats more important is HR and I see you have a motorbike amongst the vehicles you have is this correct or is it part of the service you offer?

Thanks Gas for pointing this out, I have correct insurance, I dont take any work off here, I dont have a poxy small van has you put it you have just offended 75% of the members on here, AND the last time I subbed a job out was 4 years ago 195 miles lwb transit I paid him £225 for a pick up in Oxfordshire which I paid into his bank account the moment he said he could do the job.

I have had many people pay me late or not at all in the 10 years I have been a courier, I know 3 members of the staff at Direct Route by the first names that's how easy I have had things, so when I said this should be on the joke page I wasn't been serious quite the opposite I meant it's a joke (tongue in cheek)

I dont want any apology i'm thick skinned but just think before you open your gob next time.

Not to mention that by insulting one member, you are also unlikely to be seen in a favourable light by any in his/her circle either.

Is this just a sign of the times? This month I have had a regular subbie unable to take on work as he has no running money, and another asking for payment before its due. Times are hard and money tight for most of us, unfortunately its a catch 22 situation, we are all waiting for payment from someone, so yes I understand that paying late creates problems, but you also cant pay what you don't yet have. Fortunately, I don't sub much work out, but to those that I do, they get paid on time, which is quite often before I get paid for the job that they have done. When I started in this industry, I was advised that you needed 2 or 3 months running money to survive, I believe this to still be the minimum needed if you are to stand a chance of survival.

Rapid light transport I tell my customers that having a luton curtainsider is the next best thing to a 7.5 tonne which would cost them at going rate 2.50 per loaded mile ish? And there is very very few luton curtainside vans in sheffield so I go down that road of saving you a lot of money (weight. Depending) of me but my payment terms are 14 days from them receiving my invoice I've got one customer that pays me 30 days from invoice but they are a massive distribution centre who won't budge but they always pay

This is correct, unfortunately there is a lot of misinformation about leading newcomers to believe it will be easy and if you have a van the work and money will flood in. I started a few months ago and had 3 months funding available and used a good chunk of it, my cash flow has recovered now and earnings are decent. Due to its nature this is an easy business to get into but not so easy to succeed in.

Just saying you are very fortunate any company agreeing those terms! As you say the 'massive distribution centre won't budge'

I no couriers one one here a very reputable courier who takes immediate PayPal payments up front before job is done unfortunately I can't see me ever getting it like that but one of my company's I went in to was using 7.5 tonne lorries to take a 3 metre pallet wide 800kgs weight on a lorry 1 at a time I stepped in we curtainside luton and saved them a fortune so they are quite happy we 14 days invoice I think if you got the right equipment there's room to barter on payment terms like I said how many luton curtainsidrrs are about in sheffield? So it's quite a niche market taking over size goods
