Strange question perhaps ? but my 59 plate Transits clocking the miles up big time ( last 7 days ive done nearly 5000 miles, essex to glasgow, essex to helsinki) ok i know thats not going to be every week but i think since ive started ive been doing 2 to 3000 every week, other week i was it was tonbridge i was delivering & there was this guy delivering or collecting from the same place & i kid you not when i pulled up i thought this van was dumped, it was a really old white transit w reg i think, back door was all smashed in & it had black paint round all the wheel arches it looked awful ! the driver had this filthy hi vis on and looked like he could do with a good bath, i was going to have a butchers & see how many miles it had done but was worried about catching something lol =]

In all fairness, as long you keep to the service intervals and do so after the warranty period then it should keep going, barring major component failure, which can happen any time.

I've known a few with upwards of 200k on the clock. One's of the age you are talking about were all simple technology (direct injection), no frills, built to for reliability. Okay they can be a bit gutless and wheezy, but they rarely go wrong, because there's not really anything to go wrong with them.

Just retired an 04 plate Renault Master with 380000 miles on it - timing collapsed and allowed shards of hardened metal to enter the sump so not really worth repairing.

Have an 11 plate new style renault master with 98000 on it - still under warranty until August 2012. Not really run in yet.

The older van was 10 - 12 % BETTER on fuel but the new erone is Euro 5.

Negotiating to buy a low mileage 2 year old old style at the moment.

Also running 58 plate Tranny at around 90k on multi drop work and a contact hired Citroen Relay which is returning around 34 mpg similar to the older Renaults.

By far the major cost of runnin a vehicle in this country is fuel. there is no point at all in scrimping on serviceing.
