We have a [Admin Edit in bold italics] possibly non paying member, be warned.

[business].

They will not answer the telephone.

I have spoken personally to 4 members who have carried out deliveries and have left good feedback and have not been paid.

They prices they are charging their retail customers are less than half of what the driver is being paid. This does not add up.

For further information you can call me.

[name] is very aware and everything stated is factual.

If there is genuine reason for [business] not answering call I shall be the first to apologise.

I cannot understand why they would leave good feedback about a member who did not pay them? Leave feedback after you have (or have not) been paid!

Lewis Transport

I couldn't agree more regarding leaving feedback before being paid. As for 101, it's the non-emergency line to report a (possible in this case) crime. I'm sure they will be able to refer you to the correct department.

If you check their feedback, there is now some negative. Agree I think we should ame it more immediately obvious that bad feedback has been left about this member recently on their profile.

Looks like we might be the latest, after doing a job earlier this month.

I still have the number for the people I collected from and delivered to, and on checking [name] of the invoicing address [location], [postcode], was paid £79.00 to collect and deliver From Yorkshire to Orprington.

He demanded he was paid upfront. I understand from the people involved the job originaly was asigned through Shiply. So Shiply users beware.

All I can say is thank god i dont take work off the web. The only money I have ever lost with people going bust and doing one has been from exchanges sites, since I have stopped I havent lost a penny.

Do you not credit check people when you take work on?

Hewitt Logistics

Hi SMH, credit checking is just as infallable.

We had a customer that went bust on us and we were using Barclays Credit focus with bad credit warning updates.

2 weeks after they went bust owing £1200 + they were still listed as active and had a very good credit score.

I complained to Barclays and they said there was nothing they could do, so I cancelled my subscription to the service as I may as well toss a coin for better odds.

I agree, and it might help us think of better ways of implementing checks on mtvan.

Taylor Logistics

It is such a difficult thing to monitor.

I had done good business with a customer for several years, they paid on time but without warning had difficulties and left me being owed a few thousand pounds! That was 10 years ago but did not get a penny back for all the work done!

Over the years have lost a small fortune, despite being vigilant.

Seems to me that other transport companies & freight forwarders are the worse, as although not crippling amounts have been stung a few times (you know one I am talking about [name] (SMH) :).

It is not easy to police, one only has to look at the recent pub landlord doing a runner with 50K of the local's Christmas club monies, to know what scumbags breathe air on this earth!

When anyone joins a site like this they should be credit checked/vat number check to make sure it's not someone else number or a made up number. If they are not on creditsafe then they are a new company as in days old (you do not take these on board), or they are not registered as a company.

Ive just noticed the address on the [business] website is different from the one I recieved to forward his invoice to.

[location], [postcode]. But his alternative is given as [location], [postcode]. But dont call round on Sunday cos he's closed.

I think SMH is on the right track. And I'd agree to his comments that if a company joins there should be a land line number. And of course even if the boss leaves the office he can divert to his mobile. Obviously owner drivers can register their land line numebr if they wish.

Hi to everyone.

There are a lot of things posted on here that are not true.

  1. I want to say everyone that they will get paid, we have paid people on here all ready, also part paid and paid for ferries. We even paid for one owner drivers van rental for the week. The reason you have had no response from us is that we have been abused all day which for some part i can understand. Every one will be paid by Mid January if not sooner. We have not robbed anyone and do not wish to. Some payments hopefully will be paid tomorrow.

  2. The only address that we are asscociated with is [location]. The other address [location] was an error on the postcode on the website which we have tried to remove.

  3. Its just myself [name] and [name] and any other names mentioned on here are nothing to do with us.

  4. Lastly we are not conning or robbing anyone, we shall sort everything if you can give us till Mid Jan everyone will be paid.

I'm hoping that this can be sorted and everyone can move on when paid.

If anybody wishes to discuss any of the above contact me through the site.

Many thanks

We all do work with an element of trust, whether it be another courier co, or a customer.

Credit checks will only tell you so much and go back so far.

The only way to avoid getting caught is to do cash only jobs and that just ain't going to happen.

When a job needs covering, you really haven't got time to check as thoroughly as maybe you'd like, and as an OD you assume all relevant checks have been done by the hoster of the exchange site you're getting the job from.

Sadly you will always get the odd rogue trader in whatever industry you find yourself in, and no matter what checks you do, some will always find away around it.

I do think it's a shame some feel the need to rip people off, if they spent half as much time actually doing an honest days work for an honest days pay, they'd probably have just as much in the bank....I think some just get off on the fact that they've conned someone tbh

I'm surprised the Police are getting involved. We had a van full of high value goods which we knew were going to a scammer, told the police. All they had to do was turn up and nick em. Could've even done a keystone cop and exited, truncheons in hand from the back of the van. But no, their advice "take the goods back to where you collected em from".

[business] just messaged...

Hi to everyone who is member of mtvan.

We are also feeling sorry for all those members who have issues of non payment with [business] recently. We are also become one of the victim of fraud series carried out by [business]. It is painful but good news is that we have more records and proof against this company than anyone else has, because even a clever thief some time do big mistake as [name] did on Thursday during exchange of his delivery with us.

We will provide all those records to fraud department including his vehicle number and pictures as well. If anyone have more information, please share with us.

  1. We went personally to Ashford today after [name]'s lame excuses that they are based in Ashford on given address ([location], [postcode]) but the post code was wrong and the actual postcode is [postcode]. The above given address is shared property and people living in this property have no idea of any [name] or [name].

  2. The address given on their website ([location], [postcode]) is also do not belong to them. We did knock the door but no one did answer. We did enquire from house Number 19 and house number 15 and they have told that person name [name] is living at number 17 and he is working in meat business.

So both addresses are fake and they are totally lying but the good news is that we just started our search today and we will not end it until sorted. Be hopeful and we will clear this mess very soon.

McDonald Logistics

One problem is that some people foolishly left feedback way too soon.

There are 3 types of bad debtors.

  1. Somebody that goes bust due to circumstances beond there control
  2. Somebody that books out work with the best intntions at the time but due to their poor managemnet are only going to drop themselves and everybody else in it
  3. Someone that never has any intention of paying

I'm confused about these boys because they have come back to defend themselves! I think they had no intention of things getting out of hand but dont really have a clue what they are doing and the situation is out of control.

At this stage it would be good to stop altogether and let everybody know the situation and if there is no money make sure they know there is no money. Don't make it worse by promising to sort what you cant sort out!

I very shocked by the amount of credit some people have given!

Long Services

10314

If you're doing European work it doesn't take long.

Parkinson Direct

5

Very true Rob but all the more reason to have a tight credit control and take payment up front if in doubt that much.

I will tell you what worries me most about what I read on these forums!

We can't have a Christmas or we cant pay our mortgage because of this non payment!

If some of you people are depending on these odd payments to save your house or you have staked your families Christmas on this invoice payment, well you were probably in deep trouble long long before the con merchant got you and its frightening that you are existing like this.

If you are this deep in trouble then its really not working and its not worth the hassle you would be happier in a full time job and your family would be more secure.

Some of the blame is clearly lying with those giving the credit and not just the con merchants. Remember if the bank wont lend then dont give them credit and 80% of some of these transport limited companies the bank wont touch.

Sorry Mr Admin I digress but credit control is relevant to this thread and the root cause of the above mentioned problem. (Sorry for going on!)

Long Services

10314

I hear you but Full Time employment is no guarantee of a hassle free existence, and that's if you can find a PAYE job in the 1st place. I think you're being a bit too hard on those that live hand to mouth. We all have to start somewhere, and yes, a bit of misplaced trust by some it has to be said, or naivity on their part.

[Admin: Note my small edit]

Parkinson Direct

Sorry Rob I'm not being hard its one thing to be a bad deal away from putting you business at risk but to be a bad deal away from making your family homeless and lossing everything is reckless!

They got the job through Shiply and their account has now been suspended. They paid the money into a Nationwide account (which is now being investigated). We sent a driver round to the address in Ashford but there was no one there, but clearly the address IS being used. Didn't really have time to check the company out as wanted to get my quote in before the jobs went and got straight on with it when price agreed. You have to put your trust in people often in this game and it's very disheartening when that trust is broken. Kept in touch with "Russell" as to etas and so forth en route, all seemed fine and was promised payment before Christmas. Good evening,

I saw that you had posted on a thread on mtvan.com regarding Crawford Logistics and I was wondering if you could help me.

I arranged through Shiply for somebody by the name of [name] to collect some boxes for me from Edinburgh and deliver them to Sheffield. He never showed. I then received an email saying his van and phone had been stolen on route to the collection, he agreed to give me a refund. A month later and I have received no refund and he is uncontactable. From what I have seen on the thread this may be the same guy that is behind Crawford Logistics.

I intend to provide any/all information I have to Action Fraud but I was wondering if you could offer me any advice/help as you seem to have had dealings with them?

Many thanks,

Had a phone cal the other day, claiming she was the landlords agent for [location]. She went on to say she had passed a lot of info on to [business] about AET and [name]. However I wasn't in a position to take notes as I had been injured, in a hospital bed since new years eve.

However from memory she said [name] was an alias and his real name was [name] and I dont recall the surname. He used his daughters paypal account, and he banked money into a Nationwide account.

[location] is allegedly the inlaws home address. [name] aka [name] according to the information from this woman, is supposed to have worked for several taxi companies in the area and is known to them as [name] or Russell the Bolloxer.

Any one requiring the womans phone number send me an email or message... Or ask [business] in Maidstone.

After speaking with the police officer she has told me that they have a suspect and they are gathering more evidence form Shiply and uShip customers that have also been defrauded.

All the statements are now in to allow the police to make an arrest of [name], [business].

He may have moved address but the net is closing in fast especially with all the different bank details we have supplied other information we have supplied the police.

I thought it was April fools but [name] [name] has made a payment into our account and settled his invoice.

I hope he learns from this.

I hope everyone else gets paid

I have also received payment of one invoice into my account. Still one outstanding but hopefully this will also be paid before too long. Agree with Nott & Derby in the hope that everyone else gets paid.

Hi NDC..

Is it easter eggs all round for MTVAN users then...(Question mark)

Long Services

I'm surprised anyone has had their accounts settled by this mob, cos they're extremely unlikely to get anyone to work for them again, so my question is why did they bother?

I doubt it's because they suddenly discovered their conscience

Ive never done any work for them and never will after the trouble people getting from in regards to payment. Who wants to do work for someone who doesnt pay?

Thompson Direct

Who would work for someone that they havnt check out?

Glad your getting your money,

but hope this is a lesson for some, never ever do work for anyone unless you can check them out, if it looks iffy then dont do it even from a an exchange site

SMH The problem with this is that some members foolishly left good positive feedback for the said company BEFORE they were paid, This obviously was an error of judgement which gave others a false reprsentation of AET.

Checking out isn't always that easy in an urgent situation and most of all the checking tools including credit scoring etc have proven to be wholly wrong in our past experience when a long standing customer went into administration owing £500k but was showing to be in excellent financial health.

Thompson Direct

It took me 1 minute to check Crawford Logistics the one in kent not poole , just by googling.

So if you got a call from abcdef couriers for a screamer to france you would just price it and do the job Without checking?

Thompson Direct

Ps, im not have a dig just cant believe people will work for other people without doing some ground work 1st

No usually we would ask for payment from an unknown customer but with other known members on MTVan giving a good report you do sometimes have to take things at face value.

It won't happen again mind you.

Well glad people have been paid!

Sorry if I have missed this, but how long did it take for payments to be made? and out of interest what are his payment terms?

Transport covered 11th November, Terms 30 Days actual payment 1st April.

We were only paid because he was arrested on 28th march when he appeared in court on an unrelated matter in Scunthorpe.

We knew this was planned but had to keep tight lipped.

He even turned up to court early.

We supplied the police with loads of info that we gathered.

Taylor Logistics

2848

Ok glad all sorted but when this was first posted it was not really that late? 11th November job done, 20th December first post about a non paying member. Seems a bit quick to tarnish so quickly unless one had other information?

Yes, The other info was that another courier was doing a delivery from London to Edinburgh and was being paid around £270 ish, He was talking to the recipient and she mentioned that she paid £120 for the delivery.

The courier called me with this confusing problem and i told him it sounds very suspect.

I then gave AET until 1 day after payment became due but they did not answer calls or emails, Hence the initial posting a few days later.

We only took the job on because of mtvan members who we know that had left AET a good report.

Taylor Logistics

2848

Oh dear, it's not easy as even having good feedback is not always a guarantee that people are genuine or that the job will be done right, or as you found out N&D even getting paid!

Glad its all sorted now, and hope everyone has been paid

Just to repeat our position on naming and shaming.

We don't allow it. This case was exceptional. We had to move quickly to protect our members.

Large amounts of high value work were being given out over the phone, promising to pay more than was being charged for in some cases, and with other peculiarities that the Vendor couldn't account for when challenged, and people were beginning to realise that when payment was demanded there was no response. The OP asked for and was given exceptional permission to post. The thread was heavily modded to keep it factual and balanced. The Vendor was invited to post as right of reply.

Genuine Vendors of normal work have nothing to fear here.

Walsh Logistics

2596

So naming and shaming is exceptional? I just followed a link on the directory and noted that there is a current member who owes at least 3 other members payment and yet is STILL posting jobs ... Could this be a repeat of lessons not learnt..

mtvan.com Ltd

2185

No, this case is entirely different.

The posts on the Profile in question are against the rules, and made despite warnings not to, and will be deleted.

The differences are:

a/ The Vendor is not a new start-up. b/ The work is not unusual in any way. c/ There is a dialogue possible, and on-going, with all parties, including with mtvan.

I don't want to go into any more detail about this one, for fear of straying into N&S territory.

So Naming and Shaming remains unacceptable. If you have an issue, speak to us, don't post.
