Hi guys, I'm trying to get my website sorted so it can be found on Google better when people search for me. When I put in Google my company name, it just comes up with my old website and not my new one. I've been trying to optimise it for better Google searches and currently its on 59%. It's asking me for search terms (3-5 words). Can any of you advise me how to improve on it, many thanks.

10314Using a search engine to find yourself does not give an accurate response to what someone else sees when they search for the same thing.
Your computer tries to show you what you want to see, so it "remembers" what you've already seen.
Not very helpful when you're doing SEO on your website, as you've found out.
You need to ensure your adwords match what it is you offer, for example courier gets about 15,000 clicks a month (last time i looked) which is fine if you want an awful lot of wasted calls, whereas sameday courier gets far less, but is more relevant to what it is you do.
A minefield, and one that keeps changing
All i can suggest is you keep searching about diy seo's online, cos paying for it is expensive, and i'm not sure they're any better or know anymore than we mere mortals

What is 'it'? I assume you mean you're using a tool to help with SEO?

I'm no expert here so this is just a thought...........
Would clearing your browser's cookies help it to 'forget' and get you a fresh outlook?

OK, I'll have a look at what you can do.
For a start you should 301 redirect all your old pages on your old site to the corresponding ones on the new site.
Also I would not use images instead of text if possible in the title and menubar etc. Google cannot read images.
This SEO guide from Google tells you pretty much all you need to know.

10314Do a search for couriers in your area and note the websites that come up like hotfrog, freeindex, scoot, yell. Com, cyclex. These are just listing websites but as they appear high up when you do a search, its worth puttin yourself on them, or if you're automatically on em (like yell. Com) then expand your listing with more details. They all offer this for free.

If you do register with these type of site use an alias as contact, then when you get pestered with people asking for the alias you know where it came from
