I may be hired to drive a landi disco, probably commercial model, with a tacho ; to deliver hospitality trailers weighing less than 3.5t each, probably 3t. The tacho is fitted as standard to the disco.

That's a strange one,

Logically speaking you are returning in a vehicle below 3.5t so Tacho rules do not apply.

I have found an exception for articulated vehicles under 3.5t - but nothing specifically about this case.

Hi There,

I think on occassions when swapping from tacho to non tacho working periods a manual record of driving activities is still required when using the vehicle outside the tacho requirements, but I'll not swear to that.

I do know that if you are driving a vehicle with a tacho fitted, the tacho must be in use, regardless of the vehicle weight.

Contact VOSA for an answer to this in writing,

hi i am an ex hgv class 1 driver tell your work mates they are breaking the law you are bound by the tacho laws for the vehicle not the load so if a tacho is fitted it must be used and mileage etc recorded at all times
