I put a quote in for a job yesterday from Cardiff to London at what I thought was a decent price, I told the vendor the price included the bridge toll and he asked why as you don't pay the toll on the way out of Wales. I told him that it has to be paid on the way back in and if I didn't pass on the cost it would be 13.10 off my earnings. His reply was that he could get it done a lot cheaper. I gave up.
Severn Bridge Tolls plus mileage or not?

1701Giving up was probably the best thing to do, some people just don't get it.

454I hate TOLLS and always try to avoid them if I can, but yes these must always be passed on to the customer regardless of the direction of the charge. I did a job last week into London and had to pay the congestion charge, I told the customer that this would be added to the price. I then managed to get another job out of London I told that customer he only had to pay 50% of the congestion charge... He was happy, I then rang the first customer and told him I had reduced the charge by 50% he was happy and I got another job from him the next day.

You Welsh guys shouldn't be greedy then by charging to get in your Country no sympathy

162I have to agree with the customer. Although you are correct that you will incur the charge; You don't incur it on his leg of the journey. I routinely have to cross the Dartford crossing and can only charge the cost of the journey.
I feel that you still need to recoup the charge, but I don't believe you can pass on a charge that isn't incurred directly from the job (but indirectly from going home).

538Good one Gary, but I'm not Welsh, I'm originally from Folkestone in Kent, I was dragged here against my will when I was 13. Never managed to escape, love the place really. All I can say is I look forward to a few years time when the bridge passes back into public ownership, the tolls should come down then. Am I kidding myself? Politicians will use it as a cash cow then.

I don't think it'll ever be free. The Dartford crossing was paid for over 10 years ago and they're still raking it in.

10314Of course you charge for tolls... Whether you announce it by saying x plus the toll or just give a price that includes the toll it is an expense that you have no control over, and as such has to be charged on.

260I paid £12 on a toll road about a month ago but it was my fault so I didn't pass the charge on

10314With respect thats hardly the same thing. Costs incurred by you by mistake, such as speeding or parking fines clearly cannot be charged on, those that you have no control over should be.

471Just add it to your price, save all the fuss.

I can never understand why some will not use the Autoroutes and Toll motorways in Europe. I tried using the Route Nationals once and NEVER again.
Whatever costs are incurred, factor it into the quote!

159Just add the toll cost into the price, the customer doesn't need to know that you've factored it into the price, just give them your price, saves all the quibbling about toll charges

Build new motorways by tolling them, no speed limit. Those who don't want to mix on the road with speedy folk can go slow in the traffic, those who have made a decision to take the risk, help build more roads and go fast. Sorted.
