The courier industry is under threat from the continuing rise of internet shopping and the subsequent use of lifestyle couriers by home delivery companies such as Yodel and Hermes.

The next day sector of our industry is being monopolised by these companies as they are able to secure delivery contracts with the internet retailers at rates that SME's cannot hope to compete with. Of course they can do this as they only pay 50p a drop to lifestyle couriers.

No one should be working for this amount even if it is part time for pocket money.

How long will it be before Yodel and Hermes start to become involved in same day deliveries?

Unless the Government intervene and break the stranglehold that these companies have by using what amounts to slave labour, more SME's will fail and stop trading.

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT - Simply by joining S.O.D.A. (free membership) we will be able as a united body representing the courier industry to lobby the Government in to regulating the use of lifestyle couriers in the home delivery sector in order that SME's are able to compete on a level playing field when it comes to tendering for next day contracts. http://www.selfemployedownerdrivers.com

Thank you, please join us,

Kind Regards

Peter Turner

I'm sorry but the guys that work for 50p a drop don't need support they need a kick in the nuts for doing it. If they all stuck 2 fingers up yodel and hermes would have to change their ways

Socialism, yep id agree ( to a point ) . The customers pay sod all for a parcel delivery and this funnels straight back to the drivers getting bugger all . The drivers should have a wage equivalent to the office staff AFTER expenses IMO . forget sending a parcel out for 3 quid , pay a proper going rate .

I will look at soda , no promises mind

Ha Ha,

I just had a look at SODA. For a collective looking to help increase the rates the main advertisers looking for drivers are

RICO & City Sprint.

Isn't that like a asking you to provide the rope you are about to hang yourself with!

Do you really think the Government is interested answer they couldn't give a toss about anybody. I am sure the Govt and the rest are thinking of ALL of us at this time. Only thinking though and lying through their back teeth for votes.
