I give up!

We try VERY hard NOT to post any available work, but today has been amazingly busy! Not wanting to let a customer down, we tried calling maybe half a dozen couriers who are members of this site,[ and another 'famous' [haha] one.] All our work is URGENT, so it would not have been viable to post the work.

Answers varied from 'What Now'?, to 'going to a party tonight'

Why state that you are 24 hour Couriers, when in reality that is not the case! Or at least answer your phones!

Thankfully it was all sorted.

Thank God we do not have a business model that necessitates the use of exchange sites!

Rarely do we have alot of weekend work, other than Euro stuff tail ends, [coming back or leaving on Sundays for Monday] this was a rare event thank God

Ps. It would have been nearly a 200 mile one way trip! Thankfully we have our own list of subbies we use if we have to

Ok It was local collection to me and needed an immediate response.

You say you couldn't post it cos it was urgent, but all our work is urgent and posted. By posting you are alerting more than can be called as well as those passing through who you wouldn't be aware of. And if you use the right exchang you have access to live availability where you can see on a map who is where. An extremely useful tool

I have no desire ever again to join Courier Exchange [I was a member when they first started] I know where you are coming from Rob, but the jobs we get are urgent urgent, need collecting within 45 mins max. Sorted it anyway, was just saying about those who state 24/7 and are clearly NOT. A situation like today may not arise for another couple of years!

So why mention it then?

I imagine that is the case. Understandable, but NOT helpful. It was just a bad day yesterday so aired my views :)

We do have bikes, and it would certainly be useful knowing a couple more competent bike couriers, in East Mids and Warwickshire.

On the subject of bikes, I am off to Mallory Park soon, Race of the Year, to watch my mate.

Must admit I do say that I am available 24/7 however, as just an o/d its really very hard to offer that service. Like on Friday I done a job from Newcastle to Cardiff, picked up at 8.00am and did not get home until 23.00pm. Just after getting home I got a call from Royal mail to cover a job, I had to turn it down as there was no way that I could keep driving.

Legally you can only be available 20 in 48 plus a couple of non driving hours

If I dont fall over I am fit enough to drive. Or I have not died of Hypothermia

Have van will travel! Especially weekends...

My profile says weekend work no problem. My mobile and android phones are on. On shed 5 I switched on the home positon indicator. What more do vendors want! A pound of flesh?

Nope, just drivers who answer their phones would be a big step!

Not sure how they can call themselves drivers. If they don't answer the phone how can they drive anywhere?

I agree with you entirely Mr Rapid. I have a blacklist of companies that don't pay on time and make up silly excuses. Perhaps you should start one for subbies.

Would be good if you could make this list public, it would help alot of people avoid unecessary problems and on the flip side hopefully stop companies taking advantage - just a thought

I think its a bit harsh taring the drivers with the same brush youve no idea what other work they had done previously on friday. Ok one was going out didnt we start in this job to have a say on what hrs we worked. Maybe the one that didnt answer have may not have recognised your number. Or maybe it was block if you call from a private number

I am not tarring all with same brush. Just my opinion but I think it is unprofessional NOT to answer phone, and not called from a private number. The post started and aimed at so called 24/7 who are clearly NOT.
