The day you experienced is mirrored by an increasing number of us i assure you.

I am staggered at times at what goes on, what some try and get away with and by blatant lying as to where they are. This even goes on with those that have trackers ffs. I mean, come on!

There seems a growing number of drivers ( i can't call them couriers as that would be insulting those that do know what its all about) who have no idea what they're doing, have scant regard for us or our customers, or the urgency of the delivery they've just collected. I'm un-decided whether its thru stupidity or whether they just don't care.

I've heard pretty much every bullshit excuse that there is, but even i find i'm listening, open mouthed to some of the excuses i hear.

The most recent one involves only 2 of 4 boxes collected, highlighted at the delivery point not questioned at the collection despite clear instruction to collect 4 and then made to feel its our fault?

Or a transit required, a small van sent in, a call to say it doesn't fit... No really? Can't imagine why that is! And apparently it wasn't made clear. A job for a transit, how unclear is that? Words fail me, and these are from people who should know better.

But i'll leave the best til last.

A job picked up, only to discover that they've left their wallet at home, some 25 miles up the road, in the opposite direction to where the delivery is going. Only discovered by the tracker showing the driver heading the wrong way, not a call to say anything. Asked why was told why, not seemingly understanding the implications of what amounted to a loss of 2hours... 2 hours, and then getting the hump for chasing them up for an eta? Had we been made aware, we could have taken the goods off them and covered with one of several others who had quoted (some cheaper i hasten to add).

I get why we weren't told, they didn't want to lose the job, but the bigger picture is I DON'T WANT TO LOSE A CUSTOMER

Trouble is i can only drive one van at a time, hence the need for good quality sub-contractors which i have to say 99% are. Maybe i've been spoilt with my lot, and obviously there comes a point where you're trusting your work with someone you've never used before. Thats what "feedback" is there for isn't it? So you don't end up using a complete muppet. Understanding the business should be fundamental, afterall it's only difficult if you make it so

Leaving your wallet behind is not a good excuse. Unless you need money for tolls, you can manage to get by. If you fill up at a petrol station and don't have a means to pay, you are legally allowed 24 hours to pay up.

This is why i have a comprehensive list of subbies I can trust, and why I do my very utmost NOT posting any available work. Why some are incapable of answering their phones and understanding the basics of good communication is beyond me. Feedback is important, but the grapevine works very well if ever let down by anyone.

To add insult to injury they then have the gall to query my feedback by suggesting a hotshot, deliver direct ASAP doesn't make it clear its urgent... Lol You really couldn't make it up

Speed Couriers Nationwide Ltd

I too have a list of trusted subbies that i know will do the job properly, but once exhausted you have to put your faith in ones you haven't used beofre. And lets face it, all the ones on your trusted list had to be someone you hadn't used before at some point before you added them onto your list of trusted!

The alternative is to turn work away, and that just isn't in my vocabulary.

Like i say 99% do the job as it should be done, but we don't talk about those, just the ones that let us down. Fortunately not a regular occurence, but one we should all be cautious of

If your using a subbie for the first time just a quick couple of calls to check out the feed back will give you all the answers you need. Please feel free to check out Saddlebow deliveries on Courier Exchange, mtvan or Shed 5.

Speed Couriers Nationwide Ltd

In my case the feedback from the subbie was all very positive, albeit ony from a dozen or so vendors. Everybody has a "bad day at the office" and i can ony conclude this was one of them. However the trying to justify what can ony be described as a complete misunderstanding of what urgent means, together with being baffled as to why they were getting negative feedback (it wasn't negative, it just stated the delivery was adequate) was what i found a tad baffing. Its a shame they didn't show as much concern with my delivery as they did with my feedback

Saddlebow Deliveries

Better to understand a little than to misunderstand a lot.

Better to know that urgent doesn't mean f***ing around for 2 hours before setting off

Definitely. But only because I don't live there.
