In food deliveries do you mean fast food as in pizzas etc.

It's a different insurance category i believe.

I do mean fast food, but i have two side of my business a sameday courier service then also opening up franchises for the takeaway side, but thinking about cutting that out now and talking to [name] to see if possible we could work together on a site or maybe allowing jobs to go through here,

I know the industry has been hit hard latley and it was just an idea to get thoughts on as a bit of pocket money toward runing costs when quiet

About the insurance, you can get added on to normal car insurance quiet easy as for having courier insurance because we are not actually delivering on behalf of the company producing the food and our customer is who we are delivering the food too courier insurance is fine :)

McDonald Logistics

^^^ Are you sure?

If this were the case then every subbies customer would ultimately be the person who paid for the job (The end user) not the person who instructed you to deliver.

The confusion may be because they give you cash and you deduct your cut before you give the rest to the Company, but what if they pay by card??

do you need food hygiene certificates etc to carry food no you did when i was living in Canada ?

Rose Transport

Original Poster

You only need them if you are serving the food, say if you collect from maccies or kfc it is already in packaging so your not actually touching the food,

The most you need to do is register with Enviomental Health

McDonald Logistics

2821

Ahhh do you pay for the food on behalf of customer?

Rose Transport

Original Poster

There is no payment by card, and we work with Enviomental Health and Trading Standards and have been cleared by both parties,

We started in Feb 2012 and have ended up doing 120 to 150 deliveries a week in Grimsby itself and having people regsiter to our website asking when we are going to branch out, so looking at ideas and which would be the best way to go,

Either a site like this where the orders will automatically go on the site and the drivers have to upload a registration from Enviomental Health and their courier insurance etc

Rose Transport

Yes the driver would pay for the food first and then get paid the cash once delivered, if its a new customer then we would instruct the courier to collect the money first and then get the food and go back so no money is lost by anyone

However given the level of risk involved and depending on the frequency at which they are making deliveries it is entirely possible that we will retain their registration for information purposes only. It would be helpful if you could keep a log of which drivers deliver which orders. There's got to be a huge market for Maccy D, KFC & BK deliveries!

The independent takeaways all do deliveries round here but never heard of a major chain deliveries...well done!

Thanks mate, thats one of the major problems about card payments we cannot introduce menus 1 because they change them so often and 2 because they are a registered trademark so we just have to say "we pick up from all the major fast food chains"

Places like crown carveries and toby have allowed us to use there logos etc and have said after 6 months in each restrauant they will look at figures and give Rose Transport exclusive offers and maybe look at linking to their website for orders,

So some are ok some will "not support it but we cannot refuse you"

In what way speed?

Like i said i am only using MTVAN for normal courier work, but thinking along the lines of maybe working with [name] to produce a site in the same way as mtvan just for fast food deliveries cutting out a manager in each area and it being all centralised through the site

Most courier work isn't local so i'd say you'd be better off contacting taxi companies for this kind of work....it won't interest sameday couriers wotsoever

McDonald Logistics

I've looked into local deliveries as lets face it thats mostly what m/bikes do in London, I would quite happily do low cost (not as low as lifestyle rate LOL) locals criss crossing all day long but the work isnt there local to me & neither is it in London at the mo.
I was approached by Shutl to do locals within 90 mins from on line sales going no more than 3 miles although low revenue if the volumes were there I could be interested alas he couldn't promise anything like the numbers I could make it viable at

I take my hat off to anyone that gives it a go, but this one is a non starter.
How much is a delivery worth to the driver?...£1.50...£2?...

This is a website for couriers. Specifically sameday couriers. This whole thread is bloody ridiculous.

Speed, there are 2 major companies doing this myself and also a company takeaway taxi, I have been going since feb this year and avg 150 deliverys a week min del charge £3.50 under 5 miles and above is £5.00 there are also other charges to gain the driver a better income (maximum radius within 10 miles), I have built up over 1000 customers within this time, Where takeaway taxi has over 4000 but been going since 2010 based in Ipswich.

We dont have to do much as its all automated through the website.

I am just looking at ways to expand, my first thought was taxi drivers then couriers etc so just trying to get feedback from this industry.

I wouldnt expect a courier to travel miles to deliver a maccies for £3.50,

[name], I am on here to provide sameday services such as pallets etc from the Grimsby area NOT putting fast food deliveries on the exchange.

To me it would be a insult to [name] and MTVAN and all the OD on here as i have been in the courier industry for about 5 years now as a OD,

Speed should remember me from being based in Ipswich and have covered work for [business] in the past

Long Services

Like I said...I take my hat off to anyone who gets off their arse and gives it a go, but this can only work for Couriers if there is a number of deliveries in a timed window....but I'd have thought this would mostly be evening and weekend work...and after doing a full days work then you'd be hard pressed getting anyone to cover it.
I've been in the Taxi game and this is deffo more suited to them as they are used to localised work and can fit it in more easily...I have to say tho that there was a reluctance to do food deliveries for punters back then so i don't see why they would be interested now...

But i'm ready to be proved wrong

I am now thinking along the lines of talking to [name] and maybe looking at setting a site up modled like MTVAN where order can come through and just car drivers looking to make a bit extra as long as their fully insured but not make a offer just accept the order as we will put in place standard charges, making sure the terms stated they are self employed and liable etc.

Then just market the area when one registers, it only started out to be a stop gap and has grow to become full time work for me as it is going through text at the min, and then i am sending to drivers from 8am to 11pm,

Like i say im just getting feedback and thoughts, im not jumping in and getting it wrong.

Btw do you know if [name] is still going "[business]"?

i mis read a bit of that speed, asking for the courier side i meant if they had done a job stopped while trying to get a backload do one of my deliveries while waiting, you would be surprised we have companies ording at lunchtimes etc its something different to the old sandwich truck that comes round now you can get a carvery to your desk at lunchtime we dont just deliver junk food lol

[name] sold out about 2 years back...taken over by [name] of [business] (he worked for [name] at St Ives a few years back)...he did offer it to me but i wouldn't have been able to work it with all parties making what they needed from it.....not sure if it worked out for him...nice bloke [name]

Long Services

10314

the other potential issue is that while a courier is doing a takeaway delivery or 2 he may miss out on a decent courier job....so may well rather sit and wait than "fill the gap"......at the end of the day its very hard starting up a new concept to us dinosaurs in the Courier Industry.....sceptical lot we are

Long Services

Ok...i've now got my maths hat on...if you're charging £5, £3.50 and £1.50 then how are you making any money?....from my limited knowledge i'd expect the driver to be getting that at least.....remember these guys are looking to earn at least a tenner an hour when they move....and extra insurance to boot....the margins just don't make it workable....(just call me Duncan.."I'm oot")

Out ? I'm sure most wouldnt even consider it.

I think your targeting the wrong audience here [name]. trying to integrate couriers "inbetween" jobs and takeaway deliveries.

I know i would rather bring our vans back empty 100% of the time rather than entertain any local food deliveries.
Seems we are getting back to the other thread when does a man in a van become a courier?
most couriers have a minimum charge of £25.00+vat for a delivery,
will have to be a bloody good burger and fries if customers are going to wear that cost,
if not then you are better off sticking an advert on gumtree!!!!

I cant actully believe that Im reading this that people are talking about food delivery in the same context as courier work You guys have lost the plot you cant see the wood through the trees

The OP that started this thread obviously has very little idea of courier work and the rest of you are commenting for a laugh !!

maybe the takeaway thing might not work,
so how about a Kiss a gram service?
every girls dream on her birthday to have an slightly over weight grumpy bloke in a hiviz and thong who have been on the road since 4AM with a breath like a dead Yak turning up on her to sing her birthday? could charge say £100 an hour?

now I'm off to my bunker to hide,
You've said exactly what i was thinking, but i was trying to be civil about it.

Even mentioning it in the same sentence makes me laugh, do a odd job between deliveries, would need to do 27 minimum deliveries at that rate just to get to our minimum charge rate for 1 small van.
