One of the biggest threads this site has generated involved aet transport and David Causebrook and his fraudulent activities,

Now it seems that hes been doing the same thing again and ripping off new mtvan members..who took his jobs (like before) in good faith.

How has this person been able to do it all over again without admin checks or intervention?

He beat the system last time by posting jobs and getting feedback before people were paid

Why has he been able to do the same?

The original profile has now been deleted as admin dithered over naming and shaming but his mess is just unraveling again

Im suggesting that all new posters of work are given probationary time and a warning with all jobs posted to couriers to check the legitimacy of the vendor before accepting work ..maybe a simple red amber green lighting system ....someone whos been trading for years and has been posting here regular would generate a green light by their profile and a newcomer would have a red advisory warning by their profile

Something has to be done or this will be talked about in another 6 months time....

But would that then mean that all new comers would then have the red light so therefore will be dishonest?

No just a red light to suggest caution needed until well known and used by other members

And this would be for posters of work only especially new posters

There's so many things to consider before labeling anyone I think, con artists build up a targets confidence by being the good guy gradually over a period of time then wallop they go in for the big one, whats to stop someone who then attains the 'green light' then going in for the kill when people trust him and many others are waiting for the end of month check for work they have done without fear of non payment then hey ho, it never appears?

MTVan simply provides a service which allows courier companies and subbies to extend their network. It has no part in the financial workings of any member.

Whether to work for someone or not, whether to give them credit or not and how much credit to allow is entirely up to the subbie in question.

Any system put in place to try and prevent things like this happening will always have so many holes that it would leave mtvan open to all sorts of legal issues.

Quite simply, the only system you can truly rely on is your own ability to smell a rat and to minimise your losses when you do.

Most scams start on paying on time or early then when confidence is high bang, dont pay. Some are out of control others like aet are planned from day one. We have a customer we did a lot of work for, started paying every 2 weeks then 31 days, then smallest invoice first. Then cash on account .now waiting 150 days for balance. Its only a matter of time before he goes to wall. In the meanwhile he finds new people to do his work. He does not work from any network.

If admin have to undertake more admin then obviously costs are incurred. These costs will need covering one way or another,

Sounds very like the modus operandi of someone who is currently operating on this site.

It's not the responsibility of mtvan.

Why don't you just say his name?

Because it would be no more than an allegation. Which would be wrong.

We should name and shame non payers! I think if they cant cover a bill they should not take on a job! Ive only been doing this for a few months and i turn work away rather than put the job on here untill i myself can pay the job in full rather than rely on the customer i am doing the job for. Same as i would not go in asda with £50 and buy £100 worth of shopping. Cant cover it dont do it! After the bill is over 60 days past pay day they should be named and shamed on here face book twitter and other haulage and courier sites! Non payers will send small business like me under in our first year! Fact! Why should they get off scot free?

I worked for this guy david , i did 3000 pound of work for him and everything at the time seemed good he had good feedback ect, but now hes doing me over , i just wish i had checked the boxes he wanted me to carry as he had me transport drugs to europe, if i had been stopped by customes at dover i wouuld now be looking at a 15 year stretch, if i get my hands on him he will wish he had never been born at all, david used diffrent names and addresses so how would i know if it was him or not... Something needs to be done to prevent this sort of thing happening again , maybe in the future the next guy wont be so lucky , and why should it be the guy who has no knowledge of whats going on pay the price !

Ive had one or two dodgy characters ring me to move this and move that blah blah, but my gut feeling told me not to because there was something not quite right... and quite rightly too, I did my homework and Im glad I did.. Because nobody owes me apart from genuine companies that are bonified and have been checked out..

There is loads of information on this kind of thing and people still fall for it... You might as well Kiss goodbye to your money matey if he's a drug baron.. Its good at the time earning wedge with no questions asked, but quite simply Greed can take over as well..

We have foiled i would say 2 dodgy scams a month for the last couple of years, You do get a certain feeling of "Something isn't right here" when it happens. We always call the company who we are being asked to collect from to ask if this is a new customer and have they paid by card. 99% of the time we were correct and when they called their bank they then decided not to release the goods. We have stopped companies losing 4 sets of professional golf clubs at £2,000 + per set, 4 pallets of latex gloves going to Blackburn and numerous sets of ally wheel sets. This is just a few. Some companies are thankful and some don't really seem bothered. Yes we lost as these would have been cash jobs but it simply isn't right. The last one was last Thursday, A chap called with a with held number asking for a price to move 3 boxes from Nottingham to Slough. I immediately asked for a land line number so i could call him back with a price (Usually we quote there and then but we wanted to make sure he had a land line number) He said he would call back in 10 mins as it was a company phone and didn't know the number. When he did call back we over quoted by £100 to guage a reaction but he simply said "that's reasonable but can you collect quick as we are waiting for the goods" and he will pay us in cash on delivery. I then took the collection details down and proceeded to call the company. I raised my suspicions with the manager who said no everything is fine, The goods have been paid for the previous day and were ready to go. I told him how the scam works with the cardholder not being present and if we deliver, (We will if he wants us to) that the card company can claw back fraudulent payments for up to 180 days he suddenly got worried and decided to call his bank. 10 minutes later he called us to say that they were not releasing the goods under any circumstances and that they were designer bags worth around £4500. I then called the guy in Slough to inform him of the bad news and that he needs to call the company as they have an issue. He never called back, And neither did the company for saving them a huge cash loss.

N+D.. That is a good example of some of the calls I have received, not all are the same of course, I turned one down 2 weeks ago, Sheffield to Crewe, but unfortunately another courier from up the road was caught out, after speaking with the company at collection point who was genuine, and after explaining the situation, they told me someone else was on the Job and gave me details of the courier. I spoke to the courier as she was halfway into the Journey and explained the scenerio, at this point, the collection company called her to return the goods.. I believe the Police are involved, Luckily my gut was right..

In hindsight doing your homework does save alot of aggro.

  • But what gave it away was like you my price was over the top, and he was happy to go ahead.
  • Cash on delivery. (Always suspicious about this)
  • His company details didnt even check out, and the delivery postcode was some baron land.
  • Scouse accent. (Im always suspicious) nothing to do with the police magazine but thats another scam.
  • No email or landline confirmation. Yes he did have a mobile Number
  • The details given to me and details given to the collection address were 2 different details. The claxton is now sounding at this point.

Some good advice given by N+D.. If it sounds to good to be true then it is...but always do your homework!!!

I even said to the police once we will do the delivery and have the police waiting for a sting and a guaranteed arrest for fraud. They said sorry we don't have the resources for that and it may be viewed as entrapment.
