Don't touch this company with a barge pole - they are scammers. As they claim to operate on a £2 commission per delivery in order to activate your account they insist on a £50 commission deposit which they claim is to deduct this from for the first 25 jobs, with any balance refundable should you wish to close your account. They provide a plausible excuse for operating in this way suggesting that they have been ripped of by couriers previously who have not paid them their commission. I sent them £50, activated my account and whilst my van was being repaired watched their posted delivery jobs for the postal codes I had selected for the areas I intended to operate in. Non of the delivery jobs changed status (ie showed either delivered, pending delivery, quoted etc...) for what were same day deliveries, which first alerted me and then watching more closely, I noticed not a single job was added to any of the 6 postal code areas I had selected. In addition, there were none of the expected other types of delivery (next day, 2 day) posted. I therefore contacted them by email on 3 occasions (their 08 phone no. always claims to have a 10 min wait and their chat line is unmanned) requesting my deposit back. After an initial response suggesting the matter was being investigated (to which I responded that I still wanted my deposit back as I had lost confidence in their service/site), it all went quiet and they have not responded. I have therefore reported them to the OFT and I am in the process of recovering my money through them and will forward the details to watchdog if they don't pay me back. I encourage the others that have been scammed by this company to do the same as the £50 scam is set at that figure to discourage people from going through hassle and the courts and they need to be dealt with and exposed publicly for what they are. Watchdog will accumulate the complaints and deal with it as a group and therefore will hit them for a much higher figure for recovery. Hope this helps...

There are many forums that have warned of this and other scams so my suggestion to anyone before parting with any money is do your homework first. That's not a dig at you I assure you.

Whatever you think about forums there's one thing that you can guarantee about them, and that is, if someone has been conned then you can bet that same somone has warned others on a forum.

Stick in simply sameday scam into any browser and you'll see what i mean

We get phone calls constantly about people who have already paid money to Simply Sameday and similar hoaxes, like courierdriving.com. Unfortunately people sign up to this before considering joining us, as they promise things like:

Guaranteed positions if you apply by midnight as long as you are male or female, over 18 , live anywhere in the UK and can drive... Basically anyone who is prepared to send their money into the abyss.

simplysameday used to be known as courier-hub.co.uk which now appears to have closed down.

Simply Sameday promises work, but some online reviews are suggesting the jobs are completely false.

Also, watch out for the following:

They claim to br based in Northerm Ireland, at an address that possibly does not exist There are stories of people being asked to send cash to them in the post No phone number No registered company details

Yep I've been stung by them as well maybe because I'm new to this courier Game and haven't got a f**king clue what i'm doing!!!

£75 I paid for a 3 month subscription and as soon as they get the money the chat goes quiet and no replies to any emails

But to be honest I've joined courier expert and haven't had work off there even mtvan isn't all it's cracked up to be either I left my job 4 weeks ago to do self employed Courier and removal work but if it wasn't for the removals I've been doing I wouldn't of had any work at all I'm paying a sh*t load for my goods in transit and public liability for what? For nothing!!

I keep getting emails from this company and just ignore them. I know what scammers they are and i know a few other companies aswell. You really need to do your homework. I done research everyday for about 3 months before i got into this game. Its a hard trade to crack but im just gonna hang in there and hope it all comes together soon. Im mainly doing subby work at the moment, but i want to get to the point of having my own regular customers, which is what im aim for right now it takes time and effort to build a business. But anyone wanting to go with this company- my best advice would be DON@T PART WITH YOUR MONEY

We are in a recession, people haven't got the money they had a few years ago, when you join sites like courier expert and mt van there is no guarantee of work, who said they where cracked up to be anything, also you say your new to the courier game and haven't got a clue what your doing, my question to you is why haven't you got a clue what your doing, driving a van is a very small part of running a courier business, its sounds like you have got off to a bad start, I did 6 moths research & read a mountain of books, it's tough then you do work for people who don't pay, over the years I have seen lot's of people like yourself who want to be self employed, its not easy & you need to look at every part of your business and see where it can be improved.

Stick with it Dan, you may have shelled out a few bob and joined the wrong crowd, but there's plenty of knowledge on here, and plenty of info to search for too.

As i see it the only exchange site that currently works is Courier Exchange but it would mean more expense for you. It isn't cheap but it does provide work... But none of them are an alternative to getting your own work, and doing your own networking.

Codforum is a very useful forum that has a lot of info for the newbie too, so have a look.

Once you've done a bit of reading on there and on here, i'm sure you'll be better placed to make it work for you

Dan, over the course of this week i've been ringing couriers in Lancashire/Yorkshire, with SWB Transit's and upwards trying to get jobs covered! So not sure why you have not got any work off us? The alerts go out to all our members and on mtvan for the overflow stuff, have you applied for any of them?

You researched 6 moths? How was that relevant? What kind of moths were they?

Thank you all for your input

I did research into this before taking the plunge however on paper it's fine but in the real world it's different. I have quoted and quoted on one all of the sites i'm registered with courier expert, mt van and simply same day (even though it's not real i've still been quoting!) but I don't seem to get the work I've priced as a single job which will be expensive but i've also tried to do multi-jobs to reduce my price I even quoted somebody £1 but i still didn't get the call so where am i going wrong?

I'm not giving up just yet I'm constantly working hard to make my new business a successful one and I've spent a fair bit of cash as well so that needs to be justified!

Speed Couriers Nationwide Ltd

10314

Well there are many reasons why quote don't get accepted and its not, as many think just down to someone undercutting you (although it obviously does come into it)

I think you'll find most are down to someone getting in there before you.

Are you quoting as soon as you get the alert... I'm talking seconds here rather than minutes?

I have had people quote as soon as i press the "submit" button and i've had quotes an hour after a job has been sold. Those that quote late have been at times been cheaper, but, and i can only speak for myself, for me its about speed rather than price.

I want a job sold quickly... Obviously price comes into it, but i haven't got time to quibble over a fiver or a tenner and i want to move on to the next job asap

So my advice for what its worth... Get in there quick

Speed Couriers Nationwide Ltd

The best way of using exchange sites is once you're out.

Get out with anything and it is then that exchange sites come into their own.

Yesterday a driver covered a local pile of poo for me...the dead mileage being more than the mileage of the job, but he was then in the right place to do 2 x jobs going to the same area... A double up, making the localised pile of poo very worthwhile indeed.

A risk? Perhaps, but if your area isn't working for you, maybe find one that is?

One of my lads comes in every day from 50 miles away and it works for him

Concur with what Rob is stating.

Posted a job on here earlier as haven't given mtvan a shot for a long time, left it 5 mins and no calls.

Then posted it on the yellow one and within literally a minute phone was going mental with people calling for the job (must be dead out there) - first person to call was actually an MT Van member - RMD Transport - gave his price and gave him the job straight away.

He's just picked up from us so was good to meet him and also local (ish) to us and few customers too so have prebooked for a job this afternoon aswell.

First job sold through MT Van

Not looking to start another row, but I would not agree that CX is the only site that works. I agree it is bigger and has more work, but equally there are a lot of sub-contractors competing for that work.

Certainly as a Vendor, mtvan is working for us.

Hi Dan, first thing is industry is to track down and visit ALL the courier companies in your area. Make sure that you and your van are well presented, get to speak to the people who will be calling the couriers up and introduce yourself.

Make sure that you have all the relevant documentation already printed out and ready to hand them so that they have all the important information that they need right away.

Most important is to make sure your pricing policy, to them, is clear.

Do that with every local courier company you can and within a month or two you will be getting direct calls for jobs.

Exchange sites are more for "extra work!".

Scott.

Dan get out and visit the courier companies local to you, there are good ones out there paying good rates and they don't advertise for drivers, why? Because they don't have to, drivers tell their mates.

It sounds like your research has been armchair/internet based, an easy trap to fall into, get out and meet some of these potential sources of work

HSP Couriers LTD

1833

Just make sure you have a f**king clue what you are doing before you go to meet these potential suppliers of work...although you learn a lot with actually doing the job, but try and learn the basics atleast so you appear to know what you are talking about.

Hi all. Has anybody noticed a rise in bogus calls? Lately they ring off private numbers, or mobiles not leading back to anything, asking for collections from addresses of shops that look closed on google maps. "He just got the lease!" But no purchase order as not in front of the computer/ or can't scan/does not know how to scan a purchase order. Excuse as it is ready with the collection, goods invoice there as well. But no contact name and phone number of contact name either.
