It might be me but there seems to be a few jobs creeping on here there are not what this site is for, and perhaps should be on mtvans sister site Delivery Supermarket.

All these jobs do is get wasted quotes and fustrated drivers.

At least Courier Exchange have a choice of "hotsot" or "backload" to suggest to the person quoting what kind of job it is.

I don't think this is the place for em.

Agree with Speed. I've noticed there's more and more armchairs, tables, chairs fish tanks etc that get posted on D. S. with long delivery time scales. This site's mainly for sameday courier work not someday furniture removals for stupid money. If anyone wants jobs like that then they can go onto D. S and cut out the middle man whose putting them on here

Maybe a 'load section' just for URGENT jobs would be a good idea. Then a section for the tat and eBay stuff. Although there are sites for that side of the business already.

Mr B it' not about doing it or not doing it, it's about not wasting peoples time... And by that i mean both the vendor and the one quoting.

I like RGM's Sameday v Someday... lol

I wasn't aware of this distinction on mtvan. On Courier Exchange there are backloads and 'hotshots' listed together. For things like ebay purchases I only put work on here if the customer has already bought the item, and for many of the larger jobs, particularly the shorter ones, you often get a non-urgent delivery for a hotshot price. But if people feel it's cluttering the site up i'll stop.

They may be listed together but they're clearly listed as backloads and hotshots, and that's my point.

Without the distinction, it muddys the waters

I wasn't aiming my thread specifically at you, more that if there is to be different types to quote for, then perhaps mtvan needs to make different types when booking, and we can then either include these on our text alerts, or choose to not receive text alerts for this type of work.

The dates should be a guide, but text alerts are not that detailed

For example you can alter your alerts depending on what type of van you have

I would like a box to tick or untick for urgent sameday, and one for A. N Other

It stops me wasting my time putting a quote in that you would find too expensive, and stops you getting unwanted emails, and phonecalls

So how do I post a job that can be collected, say Monday and can be delivered sameday or nextday or can be collected Tuesday and delivered sameday? Genuine job but times are flexible.

I'd call that a "hotshot" cos eventhough it's flexible, its clearly a "proper job". Lets face it eBay and/or similar is a different ballgame and maybe doesn't have a place on here at all

Personally, I'd rather this site have real sameday work, that way we all know what we're looking at, and have a rough idea what quotes are being looked for... But that's just me

This is why, as I have suggested before, that there should be a closed members only forum specifically where we can suggest and dissect improvements to the site, as there was on the old mtvan. This way joe public can't assume we are bad mouthing the site, which is not helpful for recruitment and usually ends up with the topic being closed.

I agree that it would be good for sameday jobs (or flexible jobs at hotshot prices) to be easily distinguishable somehow on the jobs page from the cheap stuff.

Yep quite agree nothing more frustrating having some muppet on the phone at 10pm because they have just won an item asking how much it will cost to ship, then getting angry because they can't get a sofa from essex to somerset for £20.00,

Lets face it eBay and alike as much as I do use then a lot are responsible for small retail outlets closing, I used to get people coming into the workshop when I had a motorcycle business asking '' I seen this on eBay can you match the price?'' but you add the carriage and they would end up paying more!

ZENITH Courier Services

Although you do get a lot of eBay customers cancelling, you can often get short-distance journeys which can pay perfectly decently. Did one the other day - a set of table and chairs - 46 miles, charged £60. They were delighted to go with me, as another local guy had quoted them £150!

Short distance is key, i think. Anything above 50 miles, and they don't seem to realise that extra mileage incurs extra cost.

Oh, and they gave me a £10 tip :)

I fail to see how any work is done on this site. My area (ME8) is currently showing 8 jobs available. These range from 09/01 thru to 24/01. Many have nothing to do with my area at all. A few show lots of bids, but still showing as available.

Compared with Courier Exchange (I am a member), this site is way behind in offering work that can be done. This site worked well before it's troubles a year or so ago, but since it re-launch, it just does not seem to offer anything. I have made bids from time to time, but never hear anything. I only hope it improves in the future.

You're ordering by distance from your postcode, hence why the ones at the bottom are out of your area (they're the furthest away).

I think it's hard to judge the site by the amount of jobs you can bid on at any instance. Less open work could mean both fewer jobs being posted or jobs being covered successfully.

There are many members who successfully trade through the site. To help it improve so that it can 'offer' you something I would encourage you to engage with the site more regularly.

The idea that down here is rolling in it is way wide of the mark. It is totally dead work wise, and has been since december. And to answer admin, I view site most days, but there is never any work to bid on. Only way out of date stuff. I still don't understand why work over 2/3 weeks old remain on offer. I thought most people on here were same day couriers. In my book that means same day work that required immediate action. Maybe I am getting it all wrong, and have been for the last 5 years.

If you think it's quiet in The Mudway towns I suggest you try up here in the arctic circle, well Morayshire. If my van don't move soon I'll be having the local plod around asking if it's been abandoned!

I don't doubt that you have been on the site regularly, but looking at your profile suggests you've come on the forum 5 times since September, you don't have a profile picture and you have not filled out your company description.

I have mentioned this a few times. I don't even bother checking the job board, I just keep an eye on the news page as the each job is posted there automatically within seconds.

The only issue is that with so many other activities being posted on there as well there could well be available jobs that disappear off the bottom of the page.

Springer Express Couriers

You can't blame this site for it being quiet as it's always like this at this time of year! Jan and Feb is dead every year so you get all the jobs done that need to be done, Cam belts servicing websites flyers etc Holidays (if you can remember them?) UK plc will get going and then the kids will have half term etc then it will stop again a week before and a week after it drops dead, if they didn't have so many holidays then we would all be better off, (sorry my personal bug bear on how much peoples children cost me)

As for jobs, must admit I don't tend to put stuff on here unless Courier Exchange fails to deliver, even though I have deleted a MTV job I still get call a week later asking if the job is still available, If your a same day courier not a man in a van you work in minutes not hours/days,

Scott Reid

Might be best if jobs expire within 2 hours really.
