751The odd call but sod all, looking around and contacting other courier companys in the hunt for work, may even have to bite my tongue and call gulp shicity sprint
Courier expert is busy as anything in the midlands but once out you seem knackered. Do you think i could find any return whatsoever from newcastle on monday at mid-day? not a sausage ? Not even a chipolata , closest i came was somewhere around leeds to somewhere grim on the east coast ( could be grimsby thinking about it ) but by the time i hit notts i gave up and went home. so far 9 jobs posted before 8am ( 6.30am till now ) on cx and none i find appealing
If i cant find owt by mid day im off to a local company with insurance in hand
Jackson Group
293We are busy, swings and roundabouts I suppose, it goes quieter in April for us then dies in August before picking back up again.
Hopefully continues to get busier and I can chuck some more your way [name]!

3617Hi guys, most who have been in the game a long time will know, but for some of you new guys who have started out, this time of year can be quite quiet, some will be busy with enough work to keep the ol timers or regular subbies going... I would advise to use this time of year to concentrate on the stuff that's been put to one side or catch up on the paper work, network or even Diy....
I personally over the last couple of years have used this time to network with clients with any outstanding office/Internet work for the coming yr..
I think it's paid off, as this month has been better than previous yrs but that's down to the effort put in.. Good luck

Completely agree, oh and another thing for the newbies - don't go round offering to do work at cut prices just to get a job, you will create problems for yourself later on when you try to get the "proper" rate when the work picks up again as it will. (The "proper" rate for the job is one which enables you to live comfortably and cover the slacker times, illness and holidays etc)

2250I could do wi gaz as my PR/marketing man.

5507I've been ticking over quite nicely with 1 of my customers haveing a few runs down to London, but now getting alot of queries for the haulage stuff & doing quite with it aswell. Looking good so far 2015.
This is definatley the time of year for gaining new customers, so far i've had some good good feedback with some potential new customers, only time will tell :)

10314For those that set themselves up in sept oct Nov or December this month must come as a bit of a shock. For us ol' boys it's just the way it is. The time of year to concentrate on sales and marketing, networking or for some an ideal time to take a break. Certainly no need to panic or reduce rates.
Hewitt Logistics
3179I suppose that answers my question, Thanks Chaps.

2848Different for everybody, reflects the different types of 'couriers' we are, and customers' we have.
For us, 2014, least busy months were November and December.
We have never experienced what some perceive to be the 'Christmas rush' and never been quiet this time of year.
August always drops off for European work, as most of the rest of the EU closes down for holidays.
This year [as 2014] has started briskly.

751Sorted, a day multi dropping seems to be turning into all next week , a result

I've had no small van jobs for you Phil, otherwise you know i will ring you mate. It's all big van stuff going to London & essex this week so far, but because of the quiet time, i've done most of it myself

Landed at base at 6.45 ( i was early ) and had finished my round by 1205 and that was including spending an hour helping another chap load. Total dropping time was less than 2 hours .
I then met up with some other fellas and took a few off them to ease the burden. Back at base before 5 after a quick stop over for toilet and coffee at home and back home before 6pm. 30 odd drops, 130.1 miles ( 179 total ), 3 collections weighing 800 kilo
Welcome to my day, it was very very easy
And yes had the call, can i do all next week? Ahhhh go on then,
Williams Transport
3691Whatever you do don't let the supervisor know that you managed the 30 drops in a couple of hours, by the end of next week he will be giving you 80 or 90 drops!

Cheers mate, I know ya look after me if am free. I may try the flyers round local business estates. I really cant complain cos am generally busy, I just hate the sitting around for more than a couple of hours. Am happy when am on the road doing over 100ml jobs.
Abbott Couriers
796The walls are closing in this week. This is my first winter in the business and I had no idea that it fell off a cliff like this. Holidays next January instead of summer methinks.
Martin Logistics
1018I've been turning work away some days..and then on other days wishing there was any work to turn away.
Perry Haulage
119Sensible Van work seems thin but had a few shifts on the trucks to keep me going,
