My sta nav is stupid.
Its a garmin 3790t . my day is not complete without my clarkson moment, looking at it long and slow- like its a petulent child and shouting quietly " you stupid machine".
Yes , i know ; I am a courier - the supreme onipresent being of rightous superior knowledge. Sometimes i have a cold and look to it for reassuarnce.
But you do have to ask, after 30 years , why on earth, in the garmin 3790t, was the factory default set to " avoid motorways"? With the previous model ( other version same box) it was ok. I did 220 miles in the peak district once , before my passenger noticed.

369I run a version of tomtom on my windows phone which I swear by it sometimes goes the long way around but it rarely fails. unfortunatly tomtom are not producing a version for android so I tried copiolot which is ok but sometimes loses it's self and if there are two roads running side by side it gets confused. as a result I'm still using my old windows phone as my personal phone and satnav in preference to my android phone.

584My Garmin tends to go haywire in London when it's surrounded by high risers. I was stopped in a traffic lights queue a while back and after the woman that lives in the satnav told me she was 'recalculating' for the umpteenth time, I sort of lost it.

I screamed at her - shut the fk up you stupid fking bitch. Next thing I know is the lady in the car to my right looked across at me, probably thinking I was on the phone, saw I was alone in the van and quickly looked forward again. At that point I realised I was arguing with a machine and laughed at myself and just enjoyed the traffic jam!

I've since calmed down and now I tell my satnav in a very calm and quiet voice just what I think of her.

242i use the tom tom go live hd .. currently pay £50 a year but get 4 map updates a year live traffic info saved me many hours diverting round accidents etc speed cameras and map share plus various other bits of useless info like cheapest fuel in area and weather. the live google search function is handy to quickly find a customer's location you know the area but dont have the exact address. so all in all i rate it quite highly

278I keep it simple I use a basic tomtom with european maps (apx £120) and listen to radio 2 for traffic problems never had a problem in Europe or UK.

I use a Tom Tom. Two years ago I also brought a Garmin.

Two reasons:

1. They are on different satillite systems, so when I loose a signal on one, in the City of London or other built up areas, usually the other is still active.

2. The second one is for company and to talk to. Sometimes the answer I get from the second one is slightly different from the first one and sometimes that slight difference makes all the difference .

I also follow the satalite to "points of interest" : these are car parks in the City of London and surrounds. All the car parks , both public and private are listed and any private car parks are very useful when working after hours. There is no parking ticket man at the weekend in the city !

Also , in the last 12 months have driven over an hour in Europe using UK maps on the garmin ,( yes that happens) . A bit slower for the Tom Tom to find you but once it does, good to go.

540If I get a call when using copilot then the in-call screen shows but goes back to the route when I finish the call. If I still need to see the route when talking then I just press the home key and then the copilot icon and it returns instantly. After six deliveries in London yesterday it proved just how much better it is than my tomtom!

1126Ptc what copilot do have I've heard about this but wasnt sure about paying out for something when I can get similar one for free, is it worth the price or not?
