My life, what a day yesterday!

Got an early start (4.15am) cleared Southend at 9am went for some breakfast. Got a backload to York, should have been an easy run with a chance of getting a late one back across the Pennines. Time to spare so stopped for a bite on the M11. Came out of the services into a 'bit of traffic'. 6 hours from the M11 to York! Biblical rain in Yorkshire, passed a bloke building a big boat near the M62.

Wondering why drivers brake when they hit standing water - quickest way to lose control, and why do they think they need fog lights in heavy rain?

Maybe your in the wrong game?
What you described is just a 'normal day! apart from the frequent stops to refuel yourself :)

Sounds like the A14 yesterday. Fog lights are for poor visibility not just fog, it's better than people that don't use them or worse still those that put them on when there is perfect visibility

Andy. Have you got Live Traffic on your satnav? That would have plotted your fastest route.

Must admit Yesterday was manic on the roads of Yorkshire, accidents, breakdowns roadworks and road closures (including the M180).. In the area of South Yorks /North Notts alone, there was 478 Incidents leading to 140 miles of long delayed traffic around that area, around 5/6pm there was 28 miles of tail back from Retford-M62 on the NB A1, and J35-J31 M1 that was 18 miles, so all alternative routes would have been clogged up with everyone thinking the same..

I was at notts yesterday and sat nav took me along the M1, saw the traffic, re-routed and took me along the hills with awesome views, who said the job isn't pleasurable.

Yep, I was in it. No alternative routes offered anything better.

Had a nice wait and return yesterday to Cockermouth through the Lake District in lovely sunshine with a Cumberland sausage butty on the way back. Kept pinching myself to remind me I was getting paid as well!

I had a quiet day yesterday only a few local runs, I glad now missed all the traffic and bad weather.

When its good its very good but when its like yesterday its a right royal pain in the neck, just have to console myself with the fact that in the end I did 605 paid miles, it just took 15 hours to do it.

Things wern't much better last Friday, I left Preston at 8 and managed to get to Bristol by 11.30 which I was quite pleased with allowing for the "road works" on the M6 and M5. Got a run from Bristol to London, 1hr 45. Then picked a job up from Northampton (54 miles away) I could do that in 1.5 hrs I thought to myself and told my client that. Left at 3.45 with a view of getting there by 5.30 (suggested pick up time) arrived at 6. Traffic was the worst I had seen even around London on a Friday teatime. Picked up in Northampton for a run to Blackburn-- 4 3/4 hrs on a Friday after 6. The roads are definitely getting worse

Nice payer then, but would have been less time with Live Traffic satnav.
