Some customers really do take the mick sometimes, i went to a pick-up, waited 1.30 mins for them to turn around and cancal the job. The job was allocated from a vendor on here, but i'm not blaming them as they tried everything to get it sorted. This company just kept telling me its almost ready, we are waiting for confirmation, then after an hour and a half of waiting they said the we are not sending it now. Why do these companies order a courier for a collection when its not even ready then cancel on you. I missed out on a couple of jobs posted on here from speed couriers and ccc that i was going to quote on. These companies really think we got time to waste. We have a living to make as well. I spoke to the vendor who allocated me the job and a cancalation payment was agreed.

You would get a call out charge and waiting if it was a customer of ours.

Sometimes production is so far behind and the item misses it's required time slot and then standard delivery at little cost will suffice. The cancellation charge and waiting time should reflect this.

£20 call out plus £22.50 waiting time (1.5hrs @ £15ph) that's the invoice I'd be sending.

That may be a reasonable charge to levy one of your own retail customers, in fact that is about what we would charge. However, if you had sub-contracted this job out yourself and you were billed this amount, it would leave you nothing left at all for the trouble of quoting and taking the booking, credit card fees and all the phone calls and time involved sorting out the situation etc

When sub-contracting, a reasonable compromise needs to be found to compensate both the courier and courier company in the event of a cancelled job, without stinging the customer too much, as we do want them to come back and book another day.

My question would be "do i want customers that keep the courier hanging around for 90mins"... Especially when the expectation of a courier seems to be to be competive with his rates, so would probably be co-loaded, thereby making his other job 90 mins late as well!

Or he may well have taken a job near to the where this one is supposed to be going, but now its cancelled he ain't going there... Dilemna

This is the danger boys and girls, and why we should all be careful with our jobs when subbing out, and why anyone taking that 2nd job "going that way" at a reduced rate should beware too..

I've subbed jobs, paid cancellation/waiting fees and not passed them on, it happens the once after that they will get charged, but then if all the jobs are priced right theres money to do that

I agree that a certain amount of waiting time should usually be accounted for to a degree with your own customers. We have one that is little disorganised but gives us plenty of work at decent rates so I'm not going to quibble over an hour here and there.

We did a job not long back and the waiting time was 4 hours - and that was well into the evening. I'm not one to be greedy with these things but that caused me a slight problem with the driver being on overtime and having an early start next day, so I asked for £20 per hour on that one. By rights I could have asked for more.

I do not see this as excessive.

If it were just a case of the waiting time, then doing the job. I would only have charged the 1.5hr waiting time. In this case however the job was cancelled. As such, a cancellation/call out charge is also applicable.

6 years ago a few couriers waited from 8am till 6pm we where all told we we would get 10 hours waiting time a £10 per hour and to be honest, it was more profitable than driving.
