Previous topics have highlighted couriers who claim to offer 24/7 cover yet switch their phone off when they personally have had enough.

Last sunday after dropping my lad off to his football training i decided to hang around and read the Times in a local pub garden .Noticing the sign outside which read "Food served All day -Every day" asking at the bar if i could have a menu i was told "chef finished now " ...it was 5PM!!

Yesterday i was driving along the A46 near warwick and remembered one of our members has relatives who run a cafe/truck stop. I saw the signs pulled in and was pleasantly surprised to note they offer "all day breakfasts" on closer inspection though the cafe was CLOSED.. It was 3pm!

So what exactly does ALL DAY mean?

Think all day breakfast means they dont have a cut off time for serving it, like McDonalds who only serve it up to 1030. I suppose 'all day' means all of the day that we are open. I guess when you have a done a 17 hour shift, that could be classed as 'all day' so the last thing one wants is a call just as one is collapsing into bed. Is that a good analogy Mr G?

Call at 9.30 pm last night - help I need a passport collecting and I am flying in the morning.

Passport picked up from Dover at half past midnight. Delivered to Bristol Airport first thing this morning.

I wonder how may couriers she called before she got through to me? I forgot to ask.

I see your point although i would rather see signs that state open until /served until... Work until... Stating All day and 24/7 even when you have done a 17 hour shift if you advertise as available.. Then you just carry on

Would that not be illegal? Yes I know it happens but, god forbid, if you were involved in an accident... I suppose out on the road and the call comes, maybe, but not if I was getting into bed. Think 24/7 means you can call anytime tbh and will try to help, its not realistic to offer a 24/7 service as an OD.

Please, why not send him a private message to tell him that you phoned him the other day and there was no answer, very unprofessional putting that on here for everyone to see.

I hardly think not answering your phone every time is such a big deal, i forgot about it until he just reminded me. I think your over reacting a little :-)

If he dosent answer his phone everytime you ring him, then why do you ring him?

Courier Expert

I think we have crossed wires, I rang him twice in a row and there was no answer, he was probably driving. Its really not a big deal at all.

I think the original confusion by the OP relates to the real world where working all means 8 hours not as a courier day 12-15 hours ;-)
