It seems that whom ever is a member pro or not that there is an obsession with two topics on the forum,

  1. Goods in transit or other insurance
  2. The workings of Courier Experts business.

I personal don't give a hoot how [name] runs or carries out his business that is down to him and him alone, No disrespect intended [name]

As for insurance that is again down to the provider to prove that they have the relevant insurances in place A simple question prior to booking the contractor is sufficient,

The site has become extremely boring, I myself have had topics closed for less,

PLEASE CHANGE THE RECORD...

This used to be a good site when I first joined, but I don't really use this site anymore because its just no good for what I need an exchange site for, but I do check in now and then

Surely this is a place for whoever wants to air their views?

Insurance and the workings of a certain vendor are obviously important to many members. I couldn't give a monkeys how someone runs their business or what model they adopt, unless it has an impact on my own company. I tend to just skip over most of the crap and just throw in what I consider to be a relevant comment if I so choose to do so.

Whilst on the subject of insurance however, I do think that this site could do far worse than follow the business model of Shed5. At least if we have the need to sub out any of work, it is comforting to know that most of the 'cowboys' have been omitted taking some stress out of the working day.

Boring it may be, but no less important.

What saddens me is that many like the original poster don't think it's relevant to them, and it is.

If you think that people being encouraged into the industry without adequate insurance, therefore invalid insurance, has no impact on you, then you are as deluded as the main protagonist.

It enables both to undercut you.

Our industry is unregulated, and the quality of service offered, like it or not, is being affected.

It is up to exchange sites, and those that use them, to try and erradicate these types of drivers, and those that continue to use them.

I'm not one for unnecessary bureaucracy or red tape, but something needs to be done.

Something does need to be done I agree, it is somewhat baffling why this site's owners seem reluctant to carry out more checks to benefit the majority of the membership?

I think it's down to a few things

Firstly, time. I don't think there are the relevant resources in place to do the required checks.

Also, it would severely dent the number of members, although i'd rather have quality than quantity.

Generally though, I think there is a belief that it's not their problem. It's down to us to self regulate.

I too don't have the time to check whether someone quoting on my work has the relevant documentation, so I use an exchange site that does. It comes at a price, but that price is worth paying, because it means whoever i use, is a bonafide courier.

Self regulation, isn't that what the banks did?

How does Shed5 (one man band, I think, although I don't know) manage to do it then?

Long Services

A very good question. I think because he made time

Long Services

And realised the importance of doing so

Gosh! He must have sort of decided to do a professional job of it.

When it comes to check, [name] from shed 5 is on the ball at all times. He even sends you an email to let you know when its due for renewal. That's exactly how it should be done. At least if you use someone from there, you know they are legit.

Just a shame there are not enough members to make it work. At £25.00 for life it's a no brainer.

+1 As Speed has mentioned somewhere before is about quality not quantity.

A backload is a load that used to be somebody's outbound load until you found out about it and halved the price :-)

As the main protagonist a certainly am not deluded pro·tag·o·nist (pr-tg-nst) n. 1. The main character in a drama or other literary work.

  1. In ancient Greek drama, the first actor to engage in dialogue with the chorus, in later dramas playing the main character and some minor characters as well.

  2. a. A leading or principal figure.

b. The leader of a cause; a champion.

  1. Usage Problem A proponent; an advocate.

So I champion that you become the chair along with [name] of shed5 and start a regulatory body for couriers Lets call it the Federation Of Master Couriers

As for your reply to my post

I think that any one whom operates without the relevant insurance should be hung drawn and quartered. Pinned in the desert with mirrors pointing at their arse.

A simple |"send us your insurance by e-mail /fax please" would suffice

[name], therein lies the reason why rates have hardly increased over the years. Courier companies would rather pay a backload rates using an exchange site rather than the full rate for a local courier. :-(
