I'm interested to know what you would consider to be a midi van. I went to a job that required swb van, got there and guess what, the pallets was too high for the swb ( vauxhall vivaro). So now i ask myself do i put it down too midi van instead- what's your thoughts

Many times we have been asked to send in 'the largest van available' [no sizes of items] only to find a Bike would have been sufficient.
We just work on small, SWB and LWB and a Vivaro is akin to a SWB

2148All depends on what work you get most of, I tried running a SWB a couple of years back and found it was too expensive to run for Small van work and not big enough for larger van work so it was a bit of a waste of time, Luckily it was on a lease so I just chucked it in and bought a berlingo, As a company I think we get less than 10 enquiries for big vans a year so if I need a larger van £50.00 a day inc insurance don't seem so bad! I think horses for courses would be the phrase!

A 2.9 tonne Vivaro actually has a similar payload than a LWB Iveco Daily 3.5 tonne LWB.

I did tell him it wasn't the high top and the its a low roof. It was just a good job the collection was only around the corner from me

I've only got this one on hire whilst my small van is getting repaired, but to be honest i don't think i will be upgrading to swb van, as i think this issue could be a common problem

3691Unless you actually have regular work for a SWB or Midi then there are really only 2 sizes worth thinking about.
1, 450 kg SLV - Berlingo / Connect / Combi etc.
2, 3500 kg LWB - Transit / Sprinter / Master etc
But you still need to ask about wghts and dims every time a job is booked.
You can always do an SLV job with a LWB at a reduced margin but it doesn't work the other way round!

I think this.
It's difficult enough getting end users to understand what will go in a small van and what needs a transit, without throwing "midi van" and "swb" into the mix.

175643For us, a midi van takes 900kg, is 1.4m high x 2m minimum in length. It should be able to carry 2 x standard pallets.
Our busiest couriers are using midi's, as they are mopping up small van work, but also doing some large van work as well. Many customers initially phone up and ask for a LWB, but when you quiz them about dimensions, it turns out to be something like: 2 x pallets of 250kg each and no more than a meter high. That will easily fit in a midi :)
