I just saw this caption on the bottom of a Courier Exchange listing

1 very small carton of airbag detonators. The haz part of it is 0.00011 kgs

Am I right in thinking that you need dagerous goods for that? Or can anybody take it

All depends if it has a haz cert, un nummber, class and packing group! A haz aware driver can carry this will not need full adr!

Oh dear... A minefield with much confusing and contradicting blumph dotted around the internet.

Be careful where you look because what applies to one Country won't necessarily apply in another.

There is a lot of ADR regs that don't apply to anything below 10kg's for example.

If in any doubt get an ADR man to cover it whatever "it" is

Not quite as black and white as that ... I would expect airbag detonators to come under 1.4S classification which does exempt them from full ADR requirements

BUT

'ADR General Awareness Training' is required as is a 2kg Dry Powder fire extinguisher, no smoking near the vehicle and parking and supervision rules do apply.

Rob, the generalisation that anything less than 10kg does not need full ADR is an outdated concept as most of the thresholds have been significantly reduced in the reference tables for 2011 and currently 2013. I normally carry the reference tables around with me in the van so you can give me a call if you want my DGSA opinion.

Not had to deal with fireworks since 2009 and lots of things have changed since then. I can look them up and give you an opinion if you have all the relevant details but in general they are not classed as 1.4S (LQ unlimited) so will have a restriction on the amount carried before full ADR is required.

The table shows classes 1.1G / 1.2G / 1.3G / 1.4G depending how much charge they contain.

1.1G, 1.2G and 1.3G have load threshold 20kg before full ADR required.

1.4G has a load threshold of 333kg before full ADR required
